Rear Drive Unit - Cable, Ground Strap (Dual Motor) (Remove and Install)

Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  3. Open the tonneau cover.
  4. Open the tailgate.
  5. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  6. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  7. Remove the LH and RH bed cargo tub struts. See Tonneau - Bed Cargo Tub Strut (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the bed cargo tub lid. See Bed Cargo Tub - Bed Cargo Tub Lid (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove the bed floor assembly. See Truck Bed - Bed Floor Assembly (Remove and Install).
  10. Remove the LH rear bed closeout. See Truck Bed - Rear Bed Closeout - LH (Remove and Install).
  11. Release the clip that attaches the LH tonneau rail seal to the vehicle, and then pull the seal away from the rail to release it from the groove.
  12. Starting from the rear, release the clips (x8) that attach the LH upper bed side wall assembly to the vehicle, and then remove the side wall from the vehicle.

    Lift the tonneau seal as needed.

    Pull from the bottom downwards.
  13. Remove the LH lower bed side wall. See Bed Side Wall - Bed Side Wall - LH (Remove and Install).
  14. Repeat step 10 through step 13 for the RH side of the vehicle.
  15. Remove the bed cargo smugglers bay. See Bed Cargo Tub - Bed Cargo Smugglers Bay (Remove and Install).
  16. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the rear drive unit ground strap to the vehicle, and then remove the ground strap from the vehicle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

Install

  1. Position the rear drive unit ground strap into the vehicle, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the ground strap to the vehicle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  2. Install the bed cargo smugglers bay. See Bed Cargo Tub - Bed Cargo Smugglers Bay (Remove and Install).
  3. Install the RH lower bed side wall. See Bed Side Wall - Bed Side Wall - LH (Remove and Install).
  4. Position the RH tonneau rail seal into the vehicle, press the seal into the rail to set it into the groove, and then secure the clip.
  5. Install the RH rear bed closeout. See Truck Bed - Rear Bed Closeout - LH (Remove and Install).
  6. Position the RH upper bed side wall assembly to the vehicle, and then secure the clips (x8) that attach the side wall to the vehicle.

    Lift the tonneau seal as needed.

    Replace any missing or damaged clips.
  7. Repeat step 3 through step 6 for the LH side of the vehicle.
  8. Install the bed floor assembly. See Truck Bed - Bed Floor Assembly (Remove and Install).
  9. Install the bed cargo tub lid. See Bed Cargo Tub - Bed Cargo Tub Lid (Remove and Replace).
  10. Install the LH and RH bed cargo tub struts. See Tonneau - Bed Cargo Tub Strut (Remove and Install).
  11. Reconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  12. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  13. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  14. Close the tonneau cover.
  15. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  16. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
