Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Wheel Harness (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  3. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  4. Remove the driver airbag. See Front Air Bags - Driver Airbag Assembly (Remove and Install).
  5. Remove the steering wheel. See Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Wheel Pur Heated (Remove and Install).
  6. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the steering wheel horn plate assembly to the steering wheel, disconnect the spade connector, and then remove the plate from the steering wheel assembly.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T30 socket
  7. Remove the upper shroud from the steering wheel. See Steering Column and Wheel - Shroud Upper - Steering Wheel.
  8. Remove the LH steering wheel switch. See Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Wheel Switch - LH (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the RH steering wheel switch. See Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Wheel Switch - RH (Remove and Install).
  10. Disconnect the steering wheel heater connectors (x2), remove the screw that attaches the steering wheel harness to the steering wheel assembly, and then release the harness from the grooves to remove it from the assembly.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T8 bit

Install

  1. Position the steering wheel harness into the steering wheel assembly, secure the harness into the grooves, and then install the screw that attaches the harness to the steering wheel assembly.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T8 bit
  2. Connect the steering wheel heater electrical connectors (x2).
  3. Install the RH steering wheel switch. See Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Wheel Switch - RH (Remove and Install).
  4. Install the LH steering wheel switch. See Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Wheel Switch - LH (Remove and Install).
  5. Install the upper shroud from the steering wheel. See Steering Column and Wheel - Shroud Upper - Steering Wheel.
  6. Position the steering wheel horn plate assembly to the steering wheel, connect the spade connector, and then install the bolts (x4) that attach the plate to the steering wheel assembly.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T30 socket
  7. Install the steering wheel. See Steering Column and Wheel - Steering Wheel Pur Heated (Remove and Install).
  8. Install the driver airbag. See Front Air Bags - Driver Airbag Assembly (Remove and Install).
  9. Reconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  10. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  11. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  12. Perform Handwheel calibration. See Set Handwheel Zero.
  13. On the vehicle touchscreen, navigate to Service Mode Plus > Chassis > Steer by Wire > PEPS > Front Rack Calibration.
  14. Tap Front Rack Calibration, tap Run, and then successful pass.

  15. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  16. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  17. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
