Warning
Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.

Only technicians who have been trained in High Voltage Awareness and have completed all required certification courses (if applicable) are permitted to perform this procedure. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and insulating HV gloves with a minimum rating of class 0 (1000V) must be worn at all times a high voltage cable, busbar, or fitting is handled. Refer to Tech Note TN-15-92-003, High Voltage Awareness Care Points for additional glove and safety information.
  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Open the powered frunk.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  4. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  5. Unlock the vehicle Gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  6. Access thermal system routines using the UI

    Select quick controls > Service mode > Diagnostics > Thermal, Authorize routines by holding right turn signal, depressing brake pedal for 10 seconds with key on phone dock
  7. Select 'Coolant System' to enter coolant circuit screen, Select 'Coolant Fill/Drain' using the UI and PROC_VCFRONT_X_START-THERMAL-FILL-DRAINvia Service Mode:
    • Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Start Thermal Fill/Drain
    • Thermal ➜ Coolant System ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain
    • Thermal ➜ Refrigerant System ➜ Start Refrigerant Fill/Drain

  8. Connect a laptop with Toolbox to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  9. Select "Actions" and search for "EPB"
  10. Select PROC_EPB_X_SERVICE-MODEvia Service Mode:

  11. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Install).
  12. Disconnect MV power. See Mid-Voltage Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  13. Remove the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  14. Disconnect RH rear EPB harness

  15. Release RH rear brake line from upper control arm

  16. Remove RH rear brake caliper and set aside

    2x bolts, 21 mm, 150 Nm, Hang caliper from body if not fully removing, Route caliper hose so that it does not get caught on stabar assembly
  17. Remove RH rear brake rotor

  18. Use jack to simulate ride height on RH rear suspension

    Raise jack to simulate ride height, This is to release tension from the upper control arm which will be removed next later steps, DO NOT skip this you run into the risk of hurting yourself
  19. Remove RH rear toe link from RH rear knuckle

    1x nut, 21mm, 170 Nm, Counter hold ball joint, Discard nyloc nut after removal
  20. Remove nut securing RH rear upper control arm to knuckle

  21. Use jack to lower RH rear ride height back to hanging position

  36. Remove rear skid plate. See Skid Plate - Rear (Remove and Install).
  37. Remove the rear aeroshield. See Aeroshield - Rear (Remove and Install).
  38. Remove the rear diffuser. See Diffuser - Rear (Remove and Install).
  39. Remove all items from pockets and ensure not wearing metal items
  40. Inspect HV insulating gloves

    Check gloves for damage prior to use, Refer to service document TN-15-92-003, for information on inspecting HV gloves.
  41. Put on HV insulating gloves and leather over gloves
  42. Remove clips securing AC compressor HV harness

  43. Verify no HV - Install amp clamp to RDU HV harness

    Verify meter is zeroed out before performing measurement, Measure single cable. Verify ammeter is installed in correct direction. If current > 0.5A do not proceed with disconnecting HV connector. In this case, start vehicle electrical isolation again to make sure that all was properly shut down. Escalate for assistance as required. If current < 0.5A, Ok to disconnect and check voltage at HV plug on the battery side. Release locking tab and rotate the release lever up to disengage the connector, Release harness clip, Do not force the release lever up, Ensure the alignment tabs on the RDU header are not damaged. Make sure to wear PPE (HV gloves, safety glasses) when working on high voltage component, Measure B+ to Ground, B- to Ground, B+ to B-, If voltage is greater than 10V, Pack contactors are not open or welded, Stop work and reach out to Service Engineering

  116. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
