Body Controllers - Left Controller (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Move the LH front seat fully rearward.
  3. Open the powered frunk.
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  5. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  6. Remove the accelerator pedal side trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Pedal - Side Trim (Remove and Install).
  7. Remove the accelerator pedal. See Accelerator Pedal (Remove and Install).
  8. Remove the LH carpet support foam.

    Note
    Lift up from the rear edge.
  9. Release the harness clips (x5) from the controller.
  10. Release the locking tabs, and then disconnect the X0012 (Steering Column), X0013 (Etherloop), and X0014 (Car Computer) electrical connectors from the controller.
  11. Slowly loosen the bolt that secures the locking cover to the MV controller, making sure that the cover separates from the controller squarely, and does not bind.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket

    Do not remove the locking cover. Loosen the bolt until it spins freely.

    Note
    If the cover binds, tighten the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then loosen the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.

    Use a power tool to loosen the fastener.

  12. Disconnect the controller dry side electrical connectors (x2).

    CAUTION
    Do not attempt to remove the connectors until the locking cover has been fully released. Removing a connector while the locking cover is still partially engaged could damage the harness connector.

    Note
    Each connector has two tabs, one on the top right side and one on the left lower side of the connector head. Both tabs must be pressed inwards in order for the connector head to clear the locking cover and release successfully.
    Tip: Press the connector locking tab by hand, and then use a pocket screwdriver to press the locking tab on the other side of the connector.
  13. Remove the nuts (x4) that attach the controller on the bulkhead.
    14 Nm (10.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  14. Disconnect the steering electrical connector from the wet side of the controller.
  15. Slowly loosen the bolt that secures the locking cover to the LH MV controller wet side locking tab, making sure that the cover separates from the controller squarely, and does not bind.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket

    Do not remove the locking cover. Tilt the controller as necessary.

    If the cover binds, tighten the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then loosen the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.
    Tip: Approach the connector from the right for better access.

  16. Disconnect the controller wet side electrical connectors (x2).

    Note
    Each connector has two tabs, one on the top right side and one on the left lower side of the connector head. Both tabs must be pressed inwards in order for the connector head to clear the locking cover and release successfully.
    Tip: Using a pocket screwdriver to press one of the connector tabs while pressing the other tab by hand.
    Tip: Approach the connector from the right for better access.
  17. Disconnect the electrical connector, and then remove the controller from the vehicle.

    Maneuver the controller around the steering actuator.

Install

  1. Position the controller on the bulkhead.

  2. Secure the controller wet side electrical connectors (x2).

    Note
    Leave the steering electrical connector (at the lower left corner of the controller) disconnected so that there is room for access. It will be connected in a later step.

    Note
    Carefully insert the connectors through the locking covers, and then gently wiggle the connector heads to ensure they are correctly inserted.

    Make sure the pins on the connector are aligned before fastening the locking cover bolts.

    The connectors should be slightly loose, but the tab engagement will prevent them from being disconnected.
    Tip: Approach the connector from the right for better access.
  3. Slowly tighten the bolt that secures the locking cover to the LH MV controller wet side locking tab, making sure that the cover is square to the controller, and does not bind.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket

    Note
    If the cover binds, loosen the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then tighten the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.

    Tilt the controller toward the bulkhead.
    Tip: Approach the connector from the right for better access.
    Tip: While tightening the bolt, press the connector into the controller to keep it square.

  4. Connect the steering electrical connector on the wet side of the controller.
  5. Install the nuts (x4) that attach the controller on the bulkhead.
    14 Nm (10.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  6. Connect the controller dry side electrical connectors (x2).

    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

    If the cover binds, loosen the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then tighten the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.
    Tip: While tightening the bolt, press the connector into the controller to keep it square.

  8. Connect the X0012 (Steering Column), X0013 (Etherloop), and X0014 (Car Computer) electrical connectors to the controller, and then secure the connector locks.

    Note
    Make sure the connectors are fully connected before engaging the locking tabs.
  9. Secure the harness clips (x5) onto the controller.
  10. Install the LH carpet support foam.

    Seat at the rear edge.
  11. Install the accelerator pedal. See Accelerator Pedal (Remove and Install).
  12. Install the accelerator pedal side trim. See Passenger Compartment Carpet - Pedal - Side Trim (Remove and Install).
  13. Reconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  14. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  15. Close the powered frunk.
  16. Restore the LH front seat back to its original position.
  17. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
