Front Drive Unit Assembly - Gearbox Fluid (Fill to Spill)

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Place the vehicle into Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  4. Remove the front aero shield. See Undertray - Front Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  5. Position an oil drain container underneath the oil pump.
  6. Release the clips (x2) that attach the RH side of the acoustic cover to the lower portion of the acoustic cover.
  7. Release the clips (x2) that attach the RH side of the acoustic cover to the front drive unit.

    Note
    Route the cover between the subframe and halfshaft.
  8. Remove oil fill plug from FDU

    1x plug, 8mm Allen, 15 Nm, Verify the O-ring is not damaged, Replace O-ring as needed
  9. Inspect plug O-rings

    Inspect O-ring on fill plug, if damaged replace affected plug
  10. Set up fill kit with KAF1

    Note
    Fill oil generously to container as it will prevent underfill and additional air being injectedOnly use KAF1 fluid, Do not interchange or mix oil types
  11. Position oil pump hose into FDU fill hole
  12. Pump fluid into FDU

    Fill to spill, Only use KAF1 fluid, Do not interchange or mix oil types, Note amount needed, If more than 300mL is needed then escalate to Service Engineering
  13. Remove oil pump hose from FDU fill hole

    Turn valve to off and remove from fill hole
  14. Install oil fill plug onto FDU

    1x plug, 8mm Allen, 15 Nm, Verify the O-ring is not damaged, Replace O-ring as needed
  15. Spray area with brake cleaner and wipe any residual fluid
  16. Secure the clips (x2) that attach the RH side of the acoustic cover to the front drive unit.

    Note
    Route cover between subframe and axle.
  17. Secure the clips (x2) that attach the RH side of the acoustic cover to the lower portion of the acoustic cover.
  18. Install the front aero shield. See Undertray - Front Aeroshield (Remove and Install).
  19. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  20. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  21. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  22. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
