Cybertruck electronics are powered by a 48V "mid voltage" or "MV" architecture that is designed to improve efficiency. Servicing MV components requires extra knowledge and care in order to avoid personal and/or vehicular harm. Read and understand MV precautions in Electrical Precautions and make sure any required MV-related training courses have been completed, as applicable.

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Put the vehicle in Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  4. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  5. Access the thermal system routines through the vehicle touchscreen.

    Touch quick controls > Service mode > Thermal > Actions.
  6. Touch Coolant System to enter the coolant circuit screen. Touch Coolant Fill/Drain on the vehicle touchscreen and -COOLANT window appears. Touch Run.

    Verify the indicator displays green for coolant readiness.

    The Thermal Fill Drain routine has a 50 minute time limit.
  7. Open the tonneau cover.
  8. Open the tailgate.
  9. Remove the bed cargo tub struts from the cargo lid, but do not remove the struts from the vehicle. See Tonneau - Bed Cargo Tub Strut (Remove and Install).
  10. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the bed cargo tub lid.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

  11. Remove the bed floor assembly. See Truck Bed - Bed Floor Assembly (Remove and Install).
  12. Remove the LH and RH rear bed closeouts. See Truck Bed - Rear Bed Closeout - LH (Remove and Install).
  13. Remove the LH and RH tonneau rail seals.

  14. Remove the LH and RH upper tie down hooks.

  15. Remove the LH and RH upper bed side wall assemblies. See Truck Bed Exterior Trim - Upper Bed Side Wall Assembly - LH (Remove and Install).
  16. Remove the LH and RH bed side walls. See Bed Side Wall - Bed Side Wall - LH (Remove and Install).
  17. Remove the bed cargo smugglers bay. See Bed Cargo Tub - Bed Cargo Smugglers Bay (Remove and Install).
  18. Open the powered frunk.
  19. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).
  20. Disconnect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  21. Remove the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  22. Fully raise the vehicle.
  23. Remove the mid aero shield.

    x6 clips; x3 bolts, 15 mm, 42 Nm; x5 bolts, 13 mm, 28 Nm; x2 bolts, 10 mm, 6 Nm
  24. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the lower tub crossmember.
    36 Nm (26.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  25. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  26. Put the coolant catcher below the Rear Drive Unit (RDU).
  27. Release the clips (x5) that attach the acoustic cover surrounding the inverter mount.
  28. Remove the coolant hose from the rear inverter upper fitting.

    Plug both ends after disconnecting the hose with plugs from the Coolant Hose Plug Kit (1135762-00-A).
  29. Position a floor jack to support the RDU.
  30. Break the inverter mount bolt loose.
    85 Nm (62.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
  31. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the inverter mount assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx Plus EP14

    Torque: 35 Nm + 55 degrees
  32. Remove the bolt that attaches the inverter mount.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
  33. Remove the inverter mount from the rear subframe.

    Acoustic cover sits between the inverter mount and the rear subframe.

Install

  1. Position the inverter mount with the acoustic cover into the rear subframe.

    Maneuver between the RDU and the rear subframe.
  2. Hand tighten the bolts (x4) that attach the inverter mount to the inverter and the rear subframe.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E14
    • External Torx E18

    Tightening of the bolts during the next steps.
  3. Tighten the bolts (x4) that attach the inverter mount to the RDU.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E14

    Torque: 35 Nm + 55 degrees

    Follow the torque sequence shown.
  4. Tighten the inverter mount bolt to the rear subframe.
    85 Nm (62.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
  5. Remove the jack stand from supporting the RDU.
  6. Install the coolant hose onto the rear inverter upper fitting.

    Remove plugs from both ends.

  7. Fully raise the vehicle.
  8. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the lower tub crossmember.
    36 Nm (26.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  9. Install the mid aero shield.

    Apply Loctite 222 onto mid aero shield bolts, and then install fasteners.
  10. Install the LH and RH wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  11. Perform the cooling system vacuum refill procedure. See Cooling System (Vacuum Refill).
  12. Connect MV power. See Disconnect MV Power.
  13. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  14. Install the bed cargo smugglers bay. See Bed Cargo Tub - Bed Cargo Smugglers Bay (Remove and Install).
  15. Install the LH and RH bed side walls. See Bed Side Wall - Bed Side Wall - LH (Remove and Install).
  16. Install the LH and RH rear bed closeouts. See Truck Bed - Rear Bed Closeout - LH (Remove and Install).
  17. Install the LH and RH upper bed side wall assemblies. See Truck Bed Exterior Trim - Upper Bed Side Wall Assembly - LH (Remove and Install)
  18. Install the bed floor assembly. See Truck Bed - Bed Floor Assembly (Remove and Install).
  19. Install the bed cargo tub struts. See Tonneau - Bed Cargo Tub Strut (Remove and Install).
  20. Close the tailgate.
  21. Close the tonneau cover.
  22. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
