Remove
- Open the LH doors and lower the LH windows.
- Open the RH rear door and lower the RH rear window.
- Open the powered frunk.
- Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Trim - Rear Apron Assembly (Remove and Install).

-
Disconnect the RH subwoofer electrical
connector, remove the bolts (x2) that attach the subwoofer to the vehicle, and then
slide the subwoofer towards the center of the vehicle to remove it.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm socket
-
Slowly loosen the bolt that secures
the locking cover to the rear controller, making sure that the cover separates from the
controller squarely, and does not bind.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 8 mm socket
NoteThe bolt is captive and the locking frame remains attached to the controller. Do not remove the locking frame from the controller.NoteIf the cover binds, tighten the bolt until the locking cover is square again, then loosen the bolt while holding the cover square to the controller.NoteUse a power tool to loosen the bolt. -
Release the harness clip and
disconnect the J3 X0052 connector from the rear controller.
NoteThe connector has two tabs, one on the top right side and one on the left lower side of the connector head. Both tabs must be pressed inwards for the connector head to clear the locking cover and release successfully.Tip: Use a pocket screwdriver to press one of the connector tabs while pressing the other tab by hand.
-
Disconnect the remaining electrical
connectors (x3) from the rear controller.
NoteThe connector has two tabs, one on the top right side and one on the left lower side of the connector head. -
Release the connector lock, and then
disconnect the etherloop connector from the rear controller.
-
Remove the fasteners (x3) that attach
the rear controller to the vehicle, and then remove the controller from the
vehicle.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
Install
-
Position the rear controller into the
vehicle, and then install the fasteners (x3) that attach the controller to the
vehicle.NoteThe nuts (x2) are torqued to 13 Nm and the bolt is torqued to 10 Nm.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
-
Connect the etherloop connector, and
then engage the connector lock.
-
Connect the J3 X0052 connector to the
locking frame, and then install the harness clip.
NoteCarefully insert the connector through the locking cover, and then gently wiggle the connector head to ensure it is correctly inserted.NoteMake sure the pins on the connector are aligned before fastening the locking cover bolts.NoteThe connector should be slightly loose, but the tab engagement will prevent it from being disconnected.
-
Connect the remaining electrical
connectors (x3) to the rear controller.

Inspect the backbone harness for any
misalignment at rear ribs and apply abrasion tape if missing.
NoteMake sure the cable lays flat and is not twisted.NoteApply surface protection at the seam of the rearmost rib under backbone cable if missing. Use black anti-abrasion tape (PN: 1879451-99-A) if available. If black anti-abrasion tape is available, remove the red 3M VHB tape, and then apply the black anti-abrasion tape. If black anti-abrasion tape is not available, apply the red 3M VHB tape (PN: 1879451-00-B) over exposed seams.
