SIM Card - Car Computer (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  2. Remove the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (LHD) (Remove and Replace).
  3. Use a mirror and tweezers to move the catch to the right, and release the SIM card from the slot in the car computer.
  4. Use the tweezers to remove the SIM card from the car computer.
  5. Destroy the SIM card by cutting the card in half through the center of the gold pads, and then cut each piece into half, resulting in 4 pieces.
    CAUTION
    It is mandatory to destroy the SIM card to protect user data.

Install

  1. Install the new SIM card into the car computer slot with the notch up and the gold pads facing away from the bulkhead.
    Note
    If installing a non-Tesla SIM card, refer to Toolbox for additional requirements. Additionally, customer must complete form SC-15-21-001.
    CAUTION
    Make sure that the SIM card goes into the slot, before releasing your grip of the SIM card.
  2. Carefully press the SIM card fully into the slot, so that the catch engages.
    CAUTION
    If using a thin tool to press the SIM card in, use the tool as shown.
    Note
    For China: Special tool 2078000-00-A can be used to prevent the SIM card from falling into the car computer interior.
  3. Install the passenger footwell cover. See Cover - Footwell - Passenger (LHD) (Remove and Replace).
  4. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
    Note
    For China only, after installation, make sure to authenticate the new SIM card.
