Fluid Coupling (Straight) - Front Drive Unit (Remove and Replace)

  • 2024-04-11: Replace the Toolbox routine by using touchscreen UI.

Remove

  1. Move the vehicle to a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Perform vehicle gateway unlock. See Gateway (Unlock).
  3. On vehicle touchscreen, select the Controls > Quick Controls >Thermaltab, and then select Coolant System > Coolant Fill/Drain, click Run to allow the routine to complete.
  4. Use a steering wheel lock to firmly set the steering wheel in the straight forward position.
  5. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the HEPA duct. See Duct - HEPA (Remove and Replace).
  7. Disconnect LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  8. Remove the front LH and RH wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace).
  10. Position coolant drain container under rear of vehicle.
  11. Remove the screw that attaches the front drive unit straight fluid coupling to the front drive inverter.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T25 socket
  12. Remove the front drive unit straight fluid coupling from the front drive inverter and discard it.

Install

  1. Install a new front drive unit straight fluid coupling into the front drive inverter.
  2. Install the screw that attaches the front drive unit straight fluid coupling to the front drive inverter.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T25 socket
  3. Remove coolant drain container from underneath vehicle.
  4. Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace).
  5. Install the front LH and RH wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  6. Inspect coolant level and top off as necessary.

    Note
    Ensure coolant is filled using G-48 coolant.
  7. Connect LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  8. Perform vehicle gateway unlock. See Gateway (Unlock).
  9. On the vehicle touchscreen, tap Service Mode icon, select Refrigerant System > Stop Thermal Fill Drain, then click Rerun to allow the routine to complete.
  10. Select Coolant System > Coolant Purge, and then click Run to allow the routine to complete.
  11. Exit Service Mode.
  12. Inspect coolant level and top off as necessary.
  13. Install the HEPA duct. See Duct - HEPA (Remove and Replace).
  14. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  15. Remove the vehicle to a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  16. Raise all four windows and close all four doors.
