A/C Refrigerant (Unknown Oil Quantity) (Recovery, Flush, and Recharge)

Note
This procedure requires the A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge) procedure to be performed. If not already automatically added to the Service Visit, add correction code 18200102 as a separate activity to the Service Visit.

Remove

  1. Set up the AC machine.
  2. Remove the HEPA filter assembly. See Assembly - Filter - HEPA (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  4. Place the vehicle in Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  5. On the touchscreen, touch Service Mode > Thermal > Refrigerant System > Start Thermal Fill Drain (Refrigerant Only) and select Run to start the routine.
  6. Perform Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
  7. Recover A/C refrigerant. See Recovery.
  8. Remove the 12V/LV auxiliary battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
  9. Release the clips (x4) that attach the coolant hose to the AC compressor bracket.
  10. Remove the nut that attaches the low pressure fitting to the A/C compressor.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  11. Remove the nut that attaches the high pressure fitting to the A/C compressor, and then set the hose assembly aside.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  12. Install AC flush adapters onto the AC manifold to compressor line.
  13. Connect AC machine hoses to AC flush adapters.
  14. On the AC machine touchscreen, select Menu > Flush Kit, and enter 25 mins run time and then follow the machine guide to start the flush, and then allow the process to complete.

    system flush procedure runs for approximately 90 minutes
  15. Disconnect the A/C compressor logic connector.
  16. Remove the retaining clip that attaches the A/C compressor logic harness to the A/C compressor HV harness bracket.
  17. Remove the bolt that attaches the HV harness bracket to the A/C compressor.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  18. Remove the bolt that attaches the ground strap to the A/C compressor.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  19. Release the clip that attaches the coolant hose to the A/C compressor bracket, near the ground strap attachment point.
  20. Pull the A/C compressor HV connector black locking tab away from the A/C compressor.
  21. Using a 45-degree pick, simultaneously push on the central locking tab while pulling on the outer locking tab, and remove the HV connector from the A/C compressor.
  22. Move the HV harness bracket forward and up to release the bracket from the A/C compressor, and then carefully set the bracket aside.
  23. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the AC compressor bracket to the shock tower brace, and then remove the AC compressor and AC compressor bracket assembly.

  24. Remove AC compressor bracket from AC compressor.

  25. Use a flat scraper blade to remove the NVH acoustic cover from the compressor.
  26. Use a wire brush to remove as much NVH cover material from the compressor as possible.

    CAUTION
    Failure to remove material will result in an inaccurate weight measurement.
  27. Use a digital scale to weigh the removed compressor and record its weight.

Install

  1. Add oil to the compressor.

    Different brands of compressors may have different dry weights.

    After adding the oil, the total weight = compressor dry weight + 250g.
  2. Install a new NVH acoustic cover onto the A/C compressor.
    1. Remove the adhesive backing , lay the NVH acoustic cover down with the adhesive side facing up, then align the cut outs of the NVH acoustic cover to the suction port on the A/C compressor
    2. Continue to wrap NVH acoustic cover around the compressor
  3. Position the A/C compressor bracket on the A/C compressor, and then install the bolts that attach the bracket to the compressor.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)

    • 10 mm deep socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  4. Position the AC compressor and AC compressor bracket assembly to the strut shock tower brace, and then hand-tighten the bolts (x2) to secure.
  5. Tighten the bolts (x2) that attach the compressor to the strut shock tower brace.
    31 Nm (22.9 lbs-ft)

  6. Position the A/C compressor HV harness bracket on the A/C compressor.

    Make sure the HV harness bracket engages with the harness mount on the top of the A/C compressor.
  7. Fully seat the A/C compressor HV connector on the A/C compressor, and then engage the locking tab by pushing it toward the A/C compressor.

    Perform a push-pull test to verify that the connector is fully attached.
  8. Install the clip that attaches the coolant hose to the A/C compressor bracket, near the ground strap attachment point.
  9. Position the ground strap on the A/C compressor, and then install the bolt that attaches the ground strap to the A/C compressor.
    7 Nm (5.2 lbs-ft)

    This bolt is self-tapping. It is not necessary to tap the compressor bolt hole.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  10. Install the bolt that attaches the HV harness bracket to the A/C compressor.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench

  11. Install the retaining clip that attaches the A/C compressor logic harness to the A/C compressor HV harness bracket.
  12. Connect the A/C compressor logic connector.
  13. Install the clips (x4) that attach the coolant hoses to the A/C compressor bracket.
  14. Install the 12V/LV battery into the vehicle. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
  15. Disconnect the A/C machine hoses from the A/C flush adapters.
  16. Remove the A/C flush adapters from the A/C manifold to compressor line.
  17. Replace the seal washer on the high side A/C manifold to compressor line.
  18. Replace the seal washer on the low side A/C manifold to compressor line.
  19. Position the supermanifold to A/C compressor high pressure fitting on the A/C compressor, and then install the nut that attaches the fitting to the A/C compressor.
    22 Nm (16.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  20. Position the supermanifold to A/C compressor low pressure fitting on the A/C compressor, and then install the nut that attaches the fitting to the A/C compressor.
    22 Nm (16.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  21. Perform A/C vacuum leak test. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge).
  22. Recharge A/C refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge).
  23. Connect 12V/LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  24. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  25. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Sensors and Valves > Run Heat Pump Commissioning > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  26. Tap Actions > Test Thermal Performance > Run, and close once the routine is passed.
  27. Tap Actions > Test HVAC Performance > Run, and close once the routine is passed.
  28. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  29. Install the 2nd row seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  30. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
