Module - Body Controller - Security (Remove and Replace)

Reuse

Remove

  1. Open all doors and lower all windows.

    Note
    Latch the rear doors with the doors open using a small flat blade screwdriver to prevent an accidental lockout.
  2. Move the driver seat and front passenger seat fully rearward and to the lowest position.
  3. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  4. Open the front and rear console rotating lids.
  5. Open the center console armrest fully.
  6. Release the clips (x4) that attach the rear of the LH decor trim to the center console assembly
  7. Remove the screws (x4) that attach the rear of LH center console bright strip to the center console assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
  8. Release the tabs (x3) that attach the rear of the LH center console bright strip to the center console assembly, and then partially release the bright strip from the assembly.
  9. Repeat step 6through step 8 for the RH side of the center console.
  10. Release the clips (x6) that attach the cup holder decor panel to the cup holder assembly, and then separate the cup holder decor panel from the center console assembly.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the security body controller module, and then remove the cup holder decor panel from the vehicle.
  12. Remove the screws (x2) that attach the security body controller module to the cup holder decor panel, and then remove the security body controller module from the panel.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.80Nm - 2.0Nm
    • Wiha 1/4" Bit Holder Adapter

Install

  1. Install the screws (x2) that attach the security body controller module to the cup holder decor panel.
    1.6 Nm (1.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.80Nm - 2.0Nm
    • Wiha 1/4" Bit Holder Adapter
  2. Connect the electrical connector to the security body controller module.
  3. Attach the clips (x6) that attach the cup holder decor panel to the center console assembly.
  4. Install the RH center console bright strip to the center console assembly.
  5. Install the screws (x4) that attach the RH center console bright strip to the center console assembly.
    1.6 Nm (1.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
  6. Install the RH decor trim onto the center console assembly
  7. Repeat step 4 through step 6 for the LH side of the center console.
  8. Close the center console armrest.
  9. Close the rear and front console rotating lids.
  10. Reconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  11. Restore the driver seat and front passenger seat back to their original position.
  12. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.

    Note
    Configuration changes from within Toolbox can only be performed by a Tesla employee at this time. Third parties must request the configuration change through their agreed Tesla technical support channel.
  13. Reinstall the vehicle firmware. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen.
  14. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Low Voltage > Procedures > VCSEC Post Replacement > VCSEC Post Replacement Procedure, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  15. Place the key behind the cup holder, and then tap Low Voltage > Keys > Pair Key, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  16. Place the NFC card(s) on the NFC card reader in the center console, and check the function of the programmed NFC keys.
  17. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
  18. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  19. Raise all windows and close all doors.
  20. Inform the customer that the new security body controller will not recognize any previously paired phone key. The customer must delete and re-pair their phone key to the vehicle, if they were previously using this feature. Instructions are available in the Owners Manual, and at the DIY web pages.
