Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure
Correction code 17010000 0.24 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so.NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. To provide feedback on FRT values, email LaborTimeFeedback@tesla.com. NOTE: See Personal Protection to make sure wearing proper PPE when performing the below procedure.
- 2024-10-21: Rearranged multimeter probing images to align with HV measurement table.
- 2024-06-05: Added warning to measure the specified order of locations for high voltage.
- 2023-12-12: Updated voltage measurement order.
- 2023-12-05: Updated references to other Vehicle Isolation Procedures.
- 2023-11-08: Added/updated HV insulating glove steps.
- 2023-08-30: Added a tip about replacing the probe to the multimeter-related step.
Only technicians who have been trained in High Voltage Awareness and have completed all required certification courses (if applicable) are permitted to perform this procedure. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and insulating HV gloves with a minimum rating of class 0 (1000V) must be worn at all times a high voltage cable, busbar, or fitting is handled. Refer to Tech Note TN-15-92-003, High Voltage Awareness Care Points
for additional safety information.

- 1130480-00-A Test Probes, Slim, Fluke TP38
Procedure
- Disconnect 12V/LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Remove the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
-
Set the multimeter to measure voltage, and then measure the across the 12V/LV auxiliary battery terminals.
NoteFor LV (Li-Ion) auxiliary battery: if the voltage across the battery terminals is 0, the battery may have switched off internally. Use a 12V Lead Acid battery for testing. For mobile technicians: use the 12V Lead Acid battery in the Mobile Service vehicle.CAUTIONFor LV (Li-Ion) auxiliary battery: if the voltage across the battery terminals is less than 13 volts or greater than 16 volts, the multimeter is not measuring reliably and must not be used.CAUTIONFor 12V (Lead Acid) auxiliary battery: if the voltage measured is less than 10 volts or greater than 14 volts, the multimeter is not measuring reliably and must not be used.
-
Remove all items from pockets and ensure not wearing metal items.
-
Inspect HV insulating gloves.
NoteCheck gloves for damage prior to use, Refer to service document TN-15-92-003 R1, for information on inspecting HV gloves.
-
Put on HV insulating gloves, leather outer gloves, and safety glasses.
WarningContinue to wear the gloves until instructed to remove them.
- Remove the HV probe cover. See Cover - HV Probe - HV Battery (Remove and Replace).
-
Use the multimeter to probe the voltages.
WarningIn order to limit potential exposure to high voltage, measure for high voltage in the order specified below.

Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:- Electrical Protective Gloves
- Slim Test Probes - 1130480-02-A
- Fluke 1587 - 1076921-00-A
- Install the HV probe cover. See Cover - HV Probe - HV Battery (Remove and Replace).
- Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
-
Return to the procedure that required the vehicle to be electrically isolated.
NoteIf you are no longer exposed to high voltage, the HV insulating gloves may be removed.
