Brake Hose - Flexible - Front - LH (Remove and Replace)

CAUTION
Brake fluid dissolves paint. Have clean towels and plenty of water standing by to wash spilled brake fluid off painted surfaces.

Note
Dispose of used brake fluid in a manner consistent with local environmental codes.

Remove

  1. Disconnect 12V/LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  2. Remove the front LH wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  3. Remove the bolt that attaches the brake hose bracket to the front LH knuckle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension
  4. Position the oil drain under the front LH brake hose.
  5. Remove the bolt that attaches the brake hose to the brake caliper, and allow the fluid to drain.

    Note
    The bolt and washers (x2) are captive and cannot be reused. Replace the hose assembly if the bolt is loosened or removed.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 11 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  6. Remove the brake line tube nut from the brake hose at the jounce hose bracket, and allow the fluid to drain.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12mm flare nut crowfoot socket
  7. Remove the nut that attaches the LH front jounce bracket to the vehicle, and then remove the LH front flexible brake hose from the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm 12pt deep socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension

Install

  1. Position the LH front flexible brake hose into the vehicle, and then install the nut that attaches the LH front jounce bracket to the vehicle.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm 12pt deep socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension
  2. Insert the brake line into the brake hose at the jounce hose bracket, and then use a crowfoot extension to install the brake line tube nut into the brake hose.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12mm flare nut crowfoot socket
  3. Install the brake hose to the brake caliper.
    42 Nm (31.0 lbs-ft)

    Note
    The bolt and washers are captive in the new hose assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 11 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  4. Remove the oil drain from under the vehicle.
  5. Install the brake hose to the front LH knuckle, and then install the bolt that attaches the brake hose bracket to the knuckle.
    7 Nm (5.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension
  6. Connect 12V/LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  7. Bleed the brake caliper for the brake hose that was serviced. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper.
  8. Install the front LH wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
