Brake Lines - Rear - RH to Sill (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open all doors and lower the windows.
  3. Remove the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Perform the vehicle JV disablement procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
  7. Remove the LH rear wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace)
  8. Remove the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  9. Remove the LH and RH suspension cover. See Cover - Rear Suspension - LH (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the rear aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the rear fascia diffuser. See Diffuser - Rear Fascia (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the nut that attaches the rear drive unit ground strap to the body.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm 12-point deep socket
  13. Disconnect the electrical harness from the LH 12V subframe connector.
  14. Release the clip that attaches the LH subframe electrical harness to the body.
  15. Repeat steps 13 and 14 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  16. Remove the rear stabilizer bar. See Stabilizer Bar - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove the rear HV battery skid plate. See Skid Plate - HV Battery - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  18. Remove the rear drive unit inverter inlet hose. See Hose - Inlet - Inverter - Rear Drive Unit (3DU) (Remove and Replace).
  19. Release the clip that attaches the logic harness to the rear drive unit.
  20. Disconnect the rear drive unit logic connector.

    CAUTION
    Take care not to have coolant enter the connector. Move the connector aside as necessary.
  21. Remove the bolt that attaches the rear drive unit HV cable bracket to the rear drive unit.
  22. Disconnect the rear drive unit HV cable from the rear drive unit.
  23. Remove the nut that attaches the HV battery to rear drive unit harness bracket to the HV battery.
  24. Slide the release to unlock the HV battery rear drive unit connector handle of the rear drive unit to HV battery harness from the secured position.
  25. Fully raise the handle on the HV battery rear drive unit connector, and then remove the HV battery rear drive unit connector from the HV battery header.
  26. Remove the rear drive unit HV cable from between the subframe and drive unit.
  27. Position the subframe lifting tool under the rear subframe.
  28. Attach an air hose to the subframe lifting tool.
  29. With an assistant, raise the subframe lifting tool to support the rear subframe.
  30. Loop the straps over the rear subframe, hook the ends of the straps to the metal rings, and then pull the straps tight to restrain the subframe to the rear subframe lifting tool.

    Note
    Lower the vehicle to give more slack to connect the straps to the rings, if necessary.
  31. Mark the LH and RH rear subframe bolts for realignment during re installation.

    You can also mark the LH and RH subframe casting and subframe bushing to the body.
  32. Remove the smaller bolts that attach the LH shear plate to the HV battery.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • 3 in extension
  33. Remove the larger bolt that attaches the LH shear plate and rear subframe to the body, and then remove the LH shear plate.

    • 21 mm socket
    • 6 in extension
  34. Repeat steps 32 and 33 for the RH shear plate.
  35. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the rear subframe to the body.

  36. Lower the subframe and drive unit assembly approximately 8.25 cm (3.25 in).

    CAUTION
    Use caution while lowering subframe as multiple components are still attached, dampers and brake calipers are still attached. Do not over-strain these components.
  37. Position the oil drain under the brake line junction block.
  38. Remove the brake line tube nut from the junction block, and allow the fluid to drain.
  39. Remove the brake line tube nut from the brake hose at the jounce hose bracket, and allow the fluid to drain.
  40. Release the clips that attach the brake line to the body, and then remove the brake line from the vehicle.

  41. Remove the brake line from the vehicle.

    Note
    Four-step removal: guide the LH side of pipe over the subframe bushing, guide the RH side of the pipe over the top of the subframe, guide LH side of the pipe between the HV battery and the subframe gap, and then rotate the brake line to the RH side of the vehicle. Guide the RH side of the brake line over the subframe bushing.

Install

  1. Install the brake line to the body, and then fasten the clips that attach the brake line to the body.

    Note
    Do not bend the brake line. Four-step installation: guide the RH side of the brake line over the subframe bushing, rotate the RH side of the brake line to the LH side of the vehicle and guide it between the HV battery and the subframe gap, then guide the RH side of the brake line pipe over the top of the subframe and guide the LH side of the brake line over the subframe bushing.
  2. Insert the brake line into the brake hose at the jounce hose bracket, and then use a crowfoot extension to install the brake line tube nut into the brake hose.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
  3. Insert the brake line into the junction block, and then use a crowfoot extension to install the brake line tube nut into the junction block.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
  4. Raise the subframe.

  5. Install new bolts (x2) that attach the rear subframe to the body.

    • 6 in extension
  6. Install the LH shear plate to the rear subframe and HV battery, and then hand-tighten the bolt that attaches the shear plate to the subframe.

    The tightening of the bolt will be performed later in this procedure.
  7. Hand-tighten the smaller bolts that attach the LH shear plate to the HV battery.

  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the RH shear plate.
  9. Position the subframe to the locations as marked during removal.

    Return the subframe to its original position as closely as possible.
  10. Torque the bolts that attach the LH and RH rear subframe to the body, and then mark them with a paint pen after torquing.
    165 Nm (121.7 lbs-ft)

  11. Torque the large bolts that attach the LH and RH shear plates to the vehicle, and then mark them with a paint pen after torquing.
    130 Nm (95.9 lbs-ft)

  12. Torque the smaller bolts that attach the LH and RH shear plates to the vehicle.
    35 Nm (25.8 lbs-ft)

    • 3 in extension
  13. Release the straps and lower the subframe lifting tool.
  14. Disconnect the air line from the subframe lifting tool, and then remove the tool from under the vehicle.
  15. Install the rear drive unit HV cable between the subframe and the rear drive unit.
  16. Connect the rear drive unit HV cable to the HV battery header.

    Note
    Make sure the connector lock is 90 degrees from the connector before beginning to connect the connector. Use one hand to support the connector while the other is latching the locking tab. Once installed, verify that the latch is not damaged and fully secured in the latched position.
  17. Install the nut that attaches the HV battery to rear drive unit harness bracket to the HV battery.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
  18. Connect the rear drive unit HV cable to the rear drive unit.
    Install the HV connector lever lock tool to the rear drive unit cable connector. Align the connector to the RDU header, and then remove HV connector lever lock tool before fully latching the connector. Use one hand to support the connector while other latching the locking tab. Once installed, verify that the latch is not damaged and fully secured in the latched position.
  19. Install the bolt that attaches the rear drive unit HV cable bracket to the rear drive unit.
  20. 10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  21. Connect the rear drive unit logic connector.
  22. Release the clip that attaches the logic harness to the rear drive unit.
  23. Position a coolant drain container under the LH rear of the HV battery.
  24. Install the rear drive unit inverter inlet hose. See Hose - Inlet - Inverter - Rear Drive Unit (3DU) (Remove and Replace).
  25. Install the rear HV battery skid plate. See Skid Plate - HV Battery - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  26. Install the rear stabilizer bar. See Stabilizer Bar - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  27. Install the nut that attaches the rear drive unit ground strap to the body.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
  28. Install the clip that attaches the LH subframe electrical harness to the body.
  29. Connect the electrical harness of the LH 12V subframe connector.
  30. Repeat steps 28 and 29 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  31. Install the rear fascia diffuser. See Diffuser - Rear Fascia (Remove and Replace).
  32. Install the rear aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  33. Install the LH and RH suspension cover. See Cover - Rear Suspension - LH (Remove and Replace).
  34. Connect 12V/LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  35. Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  36. Bleed the brake line for the rear RH caliper, and then perform a brake stiffness test. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper.
  37. Perform a coolant air purge. See Cooling System (Partial Refill and Bleed)
  38. Install the LH rear wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace)
  39. Install the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  40. Install the HEPA filter assembly. See Assembly - Filter - HEPA (Remove and Replace)
  41. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  42. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust correction code as a separate activity to the SV. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
