Hose - Return - Powertrain - Front Drive Unit (Remove and Replace)

  • 2023-07-12: Correction to correction code from 18301001 to 18303122, replaced Toolbox routines for air purge with steps using the Service UI and updated the FRT to match latest procedure validation.

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  4. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  5. Remove the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace).
  7. Lower the vehicle fully.
  8. Position a fluid catch container underneath the front of the vehicle.
  9. Release the spring clip, disconnect the front drive unit powertrain return hose from the supermanifold, and then immediately plug the supermanifold.

    Note
    Plug the supermanifold as quickly as possible to minimize coolant loss.
  10. Release the spring clip, disconnect the front drive unit powertrain return hose from the front drive unit heat exchanger, and then plug the male and female fittings.

Install

  1. Remove the plugs, install the front drive unit powertrain return hose onto the front drive unit heat exchanger, and then fasten the spring clip.

    Perform a push-pull-push test to ensure the hose is secure.
  2. Remove the plug, install the front drive unit powertrain return hose onto the supermanifold, and then fasten the spring clip.

  3. Remove the fluid catch container from underneath the front of the vehicle.
  4. Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace).
  5. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  6. Remove the coolant bottle cap.
  7. Fill the coolant to the "Max" level.
  8. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  9. Enable Service Mode through the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
  10. Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway (Unlock).
  11. On the touchscreen, navigate to the Thermal Actions screen: touch Service Mode Menu (the "wrench" icon) > Thermal.
  12. Touch Coolant System > Coolant Purge, touch Run in the pop-up menu that appears and allow the routine to complete.

    Make sure that the drive rails are off. Turning on the drive rails will stop the routine.

    While the routine is running, monitor the coolant bottle and add coolant as necessary to keep the fluid level between NOM and MAX.

    Note
    The air purge lasts approximately 10 minutes.
  13. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary.

    Ensure that the coolant is at the "MAX" level.
  14. Install the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
  15. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  16. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  17. Exit Service Mode through the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
