Brake Pad Kit - Front (Remove and Replace)

Reuse

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  4. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose bracket to the LH front knuckle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • 4 in extension
  5. Remove and discard the bolts that attach the LH front brake caliper to the LH front knuckle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
  6. Use a brake caliper S-hook to hang the LH front caliper on the body.
  7. Use a caliper spreader kit or similar tool to gently spread the brake pads apart.
  8. Gently use a plastic trim tool to remove the brake pads from the LH front brake caliper.
  9. Repeat step 3 through step 8 to remove the RH front brake pads.

Install

  1. Apply a thin layer of Silaramic grease to the left and right side edges of the LH front brake pads.

    CAUTION
    Do not apply any grease to the back side of the brake pad.
  2. Brush the LH front brake caliper and anti rattle springs with soapy water.
  3. Install the LH front brake pads on the LH front brake caliper.
    Tip: Push the pads toward the anti rattle springs, and then slide the pads onto the fixed pins.
  4. Position the LH front brake caliper onto the LH front knuckle, install new bolts that attach the caliper to the knuckle, and then mark the bolt with a paint pen.
    94 Nm (69.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
  5. Install the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose bracket to the LH front knuckle.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • 4 in extension
  6. Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  7. Repeat step 1 through step 6 to install the RH front brake pads.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Pump the brake pedal 3-5 times to seat the pads against the brake rotor until the brake pedal feels firm.
  10. Check the brake fluid reservoir and top off as necessary.
  11. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  12. Perform vehicle road test using a series of ABS-active stops and make sure proper brake pedal feel and performance is achieved.
