HVAC Assembly (Remove and Replace)
Correction code 18101002 3.30 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Note
This procedure requires the A/C
Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge) procedure to be performed. If not already
automatically added to the Service Visit, add correction code 18200102 as a
separate activity to the Service Visit.
Remove
- Set up the A/C machine.
- Open all doors and lower all windows.

Turn the HVAC on, turn the AC OFF and
set the Blower Speed to 10. Set the Temperature to HI and run for 10 minutes.
NoteThis will clear most of the oil out of the cabin condenser.

Turn off the HVAC and let it sit for 1
minute.
NoteMake sure both the compressor and the blower are off. This allows the refrigerant inside the cabin condenser to return to the accumulator.
-
Turn the HVAC back on, turn the AC on,
set the Blower Speed to 10 and the Temperature to LO, run the HVAC for 10 minutes.
NoteThis step will clear most of the oil out of the evaporator.
- Turn off the AC and Blower motor.
-
Move the LH front seat forward, and
raise it to maximum height.
NoteAdjust the seat back if needed to avoid contacting the headliner.
- Remove the console lower rear panel. See Panel - Lower Rear - Center Console (Remove and Replace).

Remove LH rear exterior hardware from
center console
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 7 Nm
- Move LH front seat backward
- Move RH front seat forward
-
Raise RH front seat cushion to
maximum height
NoteAdjust seat back if needed to avoid contacting headliner

Remove RH rear exterior hardware from
center console
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 7 Nm
- Move RH front seat backward
- Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
- Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode.

Access the thermal system service
touchscreen menu.
- On the touchscreen, touch the "Start" button next to "Start Thermal Fill Drain (Refrigerant Only)", and then touch Run Task. Close the pop-up window once the routine has passed.
- Disconnect the LV battery power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Perform the A/C recovery. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge).
- Remove the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove LH front floor mat

Remove LH console side panel

Note11x clips, 2x guide pins, Use trim tool starting at top edge to release upper clips, then pull bottom to release remaining clips, Use caution and pull panel straight away from console, if panel is peeled off it could be damaged

Remove LH front exterior hardware from
center console

Remove screw and clips securing LH
footwell cover
Note2x push clips, 1x screw, T20, 2.5 Nm

Remove connectors from LH footwell
cover and remove from vehicle
Note3x tabs, 1x Ethernet connector, 1x puddle light connector

Remove fasteners securing driver knee
air bag to vehicle
Note2x push clips, 2x screws, T20, 2 Nm, 4x patch bolts, E10, 8 Nm, Discard after removal, Support the knee air bag while lowering, The connector / harness length is very short
-
Disconnect the driver knee air bag and
remove from vehicle
Note1x connector, Release locking tab

Remove the LH footwell duct from HVAC
module
NotePull LH footwell duct towards LH side of vehicle to remove
- Remove clip securing LH front cabin carpet to body
- Repeat step 22 to 26 for the RH side.
- Disconnect the USB harness connector at the right front of the center console.
- Disconnect the harness connector from the rear of the center console.

Remove center console from

NoteVerify rotating lids are in closed position, Recommend assistance, Tilt rear of console upward, Pull assembly towards rear of vehicle

Disconnect the dash connector from the
left body controller

steering column

Release the IP harness clip located on
the blower motor assembly

Remove center console support

Release the clip located next to the
RCM

Remove clip securing the carpet to LH
cross car beam bracket

Remove the bolt that secures the LH
cross car beam bracket to the cross car beam

Remove nut securing the LH cross car
beam bracket to the body and remove LH cross car beam bracket
Note1x nut, 13mm, 25 Nm, Slightly pull LH carpet towards LH side of vehicle, Take note of direction of cross car beam bracket during removal

Remove clip securing the carpet to RH
cross car beam bracket

Remove bolts securing cross car beam
to the HVAC assembly

Remove bolt securing the cross car
beam to HVAC assembly on upper LH side of HVAC assembly
Note1x bolt. 10mm, 5.5 Nm

Remove bolt that secures the cross car
beam to the upper cowl
Note1x bolt, 13mm, 25 Nm

Remove bolts securing cross car beam
to LH side of body
Note2x bolts, 15mm, 29 Nm

Remove bolts securing cross car beam
to RH side of body
Note2x bolts, 15mm, 29 Nm

Remove bolts securing cross car beam
to LH side of bulkhead
Note2x bolts, 13mm, 25 Nm
- With assistance, remove the cross car beam from the vehicle.
- Disconnect the HVAC connector from the right vehicle controller.

Remove floor duct from stud located
in-between LH and RH seat
Note1x stud
- Remove floor duct from HVAC assembly and position out of the way
- Remove the AC hoses from the vehicle.
- Release vacuum from the AC lines.

Remove AC manifold to HVAC line from
HVAC assembly
Note2x bolts, 13mm, 22 Nm

Remove bolt securing HVAC assembly to
RH side of bulkhead
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 5.5 Nm

Remove nut securing HVAC assembly to
body located on RH side of HVAC assembly
Note1x nut, 10mm, 5.5 Nm, Slightly move RH carpet and foam towards RH side of vehicle, Recommend assistance to support HVAC assembly Vehicles built after 3/2020 may not have stud and nut

Remove HVAC assembly from
vehicle
NoteRemove HVAC assembly towards rear of vehicle, Rotate counter clockwise and remove out of passenger front door, Recommend assistance
Install
-
Install HVAC assembly into vehicle and
position HVAC assembly onto stud
NoteInstall front of HVAC assembly through passenger front door, Rotate counter clockwise and install towards front of vehicle

Install nut securing HVAC assembly to
body
Note1x nut, 10mm, 5.5 Nm, Slightly move RH carpet and foam towards RH side of vehicle
-
Install bolt securing HVAC assembly to
RH side of bulkhead
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 5.5 Nm
- Install floor duct to HVAC assembly
-
Install floor duct onto stud located
in-between LH and RH seat

- Connect the HVAC connector to right vehicle controller.

Install AC manifold to HVAC line to
HVAC assembly

- Reconnect the AC hoses to the vehicle.

Perform system vacuum and refrigerant
refill
NoteSelect 20 mins of Vacuum, Recharge refrigerant to car's specs, add oil quantity as needed, select both HP and LP for charging
- With assistance, install the cross car beam into the vehicle

brackets.

- Install the headliner harness clip located on the LH upper A pillar.
- Install the headliner harness clips (x2) to the LH lower A-Pillar.
- Install the headliner harness connector on the LH lower A-Pillar.
- Install the clip located on the RH lower A-pillar.
- Install the clip located on the RH side of cross car beam.
- Install the dash harness connector to the right body controller.
- Position the RH carpet back to the original position.
- Install the connectors (x2) to the car computer.

Install HVAC harness to the IP harness
holding mount on RH side of the IP harness
Note2x holding mount, 1st holding mount is located on the RH side of the HVAC assembly, 2nd holding mount is located next to the right body controller
- Install the IP harness clip to the HVAC assembly next to the RH upper mode actuator.
- Install the IP harness clip to the HVAC assembly next to the RH lower duct thermistor.
- Install the IP harness clip to the cross car beam.
- Install the IP harness clip to the body of the vehicle next to RH cross car beam bracket.

Install center console support

Note1x clip, 4x tabs, Slide towards rear of vehicle then engage tabs
- Install the IP harness clip to the body located next to the RCM.

Connect the connector located on the
RCM
Note1x connector, Fully install connector and pull release tab into locking position

Install the clip located next to the
RCM

Connect connector to blower motor
assembly

- Install the IP harness clip located on the blower motor assembly.
- Connect the connector to the electric steering column.
- Connect the HVAC connector to the left body controller.

Connect the dash connector to the left
body controller.
NoteFully seat connector and pull release tab into locking position
- Position the LH cabin carpet back to the original position.
- Install the drivers air duct to the HVAC assembly.

Install the screws securing the
drivers air duct to the cross car beam

Install IP carrier onto cross car

- Install the LH and RH lower A-pillar trims. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the AC hoses from the vehicle.
- Install caps onto AC ports.
- Connect the LV battery power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap , and then allow the routine to complete.
- Tap Run, and allow the routine to complete. , select

- Disable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
- Move LH front seat forward

- Move both front seats to original position.

doors.
NoteUnlatch rear doors before closing.
