HVAC Assembly (Remove and Replace)

Note

This procedure requires the A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge) procedure to be performed. If not already automatically added to the Service Visit, add correction code 18200102 as a separate activity to the Service Visit.

Remove

Set up the A/C machine.
Open all doors and lower all windows.
Turn the HVAC on, turn the AC OFF and set the Blower Speed to 10. Set the Temperature to HI and run for 10 minutes.

Note
This will clear most of the oil out of the cabin condenser.
Turn off the HVAC and let it sit for 1 minute.

Note
Make sure both the compressor and the blower are off. This allows the refrigerant inside the cabin condenser to return to the accumulator.
Turn the HVAC back on, turn the AC on, set the Blower Speed to 10 and the Temperature to LO, run the HVAC for 10 minutes.

Note
This step will clear most of the oil out of the evaporator.
Turn off the AC and Blower motor.
Move the LH front seat forward, and raise it to maximum height.

Note
Adjust the seat back if needed to avoid contacting the headliner.
Remove the console lower rear panel. See Panel - Lower Rear - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
Remove LH rear exterior hardware from center console

Move LH front seat backward
Move RH front seat forward
Raise RH front seat cushion to maximum height

Adjust seat back if needed to avoid contacting headliner

Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
Access the thermal system service touchscreen menu.
1. Touch the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI) > Diagnostics > Thermal.
  
  Note
  On vehicles with older firmware, touch Quick Controls > Service Mode > Diagnostics > Thermal.
2. Place the vehicle key on the phone dock.
3. Simultaneously hold the right turn signal and press the brake pedal for 10 seconds.
On the touchscreen, touch the "Start" button next to "Start Thermal Fill Drain (Refrigerant Only)", and then touch Run Task. Close the pop-up window once the routine has passed.

Note
Make sure the "Refrigerant" indicator on the touchscreen is green and "Ready for Recharge/Reclaim".

Note
The Thermal Fill/Drain routine has a 5 hour time limit. After 5 hours, the EXVs will close and the routine must be performed again.
Disconnect the LV battery power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
Perform the A/C recovery. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge).
Remove the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
Remove the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
Remove the LH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
Remove LH front floor mat
Remove LH console side panel carpet

Note
11x clips, 2x guide pins, Use trim tool starting at top edge to release upper clips, then pull bottom to release remaining clips, Use caution and pull panel straight away from console, if panel is peeled off it could be damaged
Remove LH front exterior hardware from center console

Remove screw and clips securing LH footwell cover

Remove connectors from LH footwell cover and remove from vehicle

Remove fasteners securing driver knee air bag to vehicle

Disconnect the driver knee air bag and remove from vehicle

Remove the LH footwell duct from HVAC module

Pull LH footwell duct towards LH side of vehicle to remove
Remove clip securing LH front cabin carpet to body
Repeat step 22 to 26 for the RH side.
Disconnect the USB harness connector at the right front of the center console.
Disconnect the harness connector from the rear of the center console.
Remove center console from vehicle

Verify rotating lids are in closed position, Recommend assistance, Tilt rear of console upward, Pull assembly towards rear of vehicle
Remove clips securing RH footwell assembly

Remove the AC hoses from the vehicle.
Install caps onto AC ports.
Connect the LV battery power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Thermal > Refrigerant System > Stop Thermal Fill Drain, and then allow the routine to complete.
Tap Thermal > Sensors and Valves > Run Heat Pump Commissioning > Run, select Run, and allow the routine to complete.
Tap Actions > Test HVAC Performance, select Run, and allow the routine to complete.
Tap Actions > Test Thermal Performance, select Run, and allow the routine to complete.
Disable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
Move LH front seat forward
Install LH rear exterior hardware to center console
