HVAC Assembly (Remove and Replace)

Note
This procedure requires the A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge) procedure to be performed. If not already automatically added to the Service Visit, add correction code 18200102 as a separate activity to the Service Visit.

Remove

  1. Set up the A/C machine.
  2. Open all doors and lower all windows.
  3. Turn the HVAC on, turn the AC OFF and set the Blower Speed to 10. Set the Temperature to HI and run for 10 minutes.

    This will clear most of the oil out of the cabin condenser.
  4. Turn off the HVAC and let it sit for 1 minute.

    Make sure both the compressor and the blower are off. This allows the refrigerant inside the cabin condenser to return to the accumulator.
  5. Turn the HVAC back on, turn the AC on, set the Blower Speed to 10 and the Temperature to LO, run the HVAC for 10 minutes.

    This step will clear most of the oil out of the evaporator.
  6. Turn off the AC and Blower motor.
  7. Move the LH front seat forward, and raise it to maximum height.

    Adjust the seat back if needed to avoid contacting the headliner.
  8. Remove the console lower rear panel. See Panel - Lower Rear - Center Console (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove LH rear exterior hardware from center console

  10. Move LH front seat backward
  11. Move RH front seat forward
  12. Raise RH front seat cushion to maximum height

    Adjust seat back if needed to avoid contacting headliner
  13. Remove RH rear exterior hardware from center console

  14. Move RH front seat backward
  15. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  16. Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  17. Access the thermal system service touchscreen menu.
    1. Touch the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI) > Diagnostics > Thermal.

      On vehicles with older firmware, touch Quick Controls > Service Mode > Diagnostics > Thermal.
    2. Place the vehicle key on the phone dock.
    3. Simultaneously hold the right turn signal and press the brake pedal for 10 seconds.
  18. On the touchscreen, touch the "Start" button next to "Start Thermal Fill Drain (Refrigerant Only)", and then touch Run Task. Close the pop-up window once the routine has passed.

    Make sure the "Refrigerant" indicator on the touchscreen is green and "Ready for Recharge/Reclaim".

    The Thermal Fill/Drain routine has a 5 hour time limit. After 5 hours, the EXVs will close and the routine must be performed again.
  19. Disconnect the LV battery power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  20. Perform the A/C recovery. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge).
  21. Remove the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
  22. Remove the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  23. Remove the LH lower A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  24. Remove LH front floor mat
  25. Remove LH console side panel carpet

  30. Disconnect the driver knee air bag and remove from vehicle

  33. Repeat step 22 to 26 for the RH side.
  34. Disconnect the USB harness connector at the right front of the center console.
  35. Disconnect the harness connector from the rear of the center console.
  36. Remove center console from vehicle

  3. Install bolt securing HVAC assembly to RH side of bulkhead

  4. Install floor duct to HVAC assembly
  5. Install floor duct onto stud located in-between LH and RH seat

  7. Install AC manifold to HVAC line to HVAC assembly

  9. Perform system vacuum and refrigerant refill

  38. Install the headliner harness connector on the LH lower A-Pillar.
  39. Install the clip located on the RH lower A-pillar.
  40. Install the clip located on the RH side of cross car beam.
  41. Install the dash harness connector to the right body controller.
  42. Position the RH carpet back to the original position.
  43. Install the connectors (x2) to the car computer.
  44. Install HVAC harness to the IP harness holding mount on RH side of the IP harness
