Motor - Seat Tilt - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace)

Warning
Seat base edges are sharp and can cause personal injury. Wear cut resistant gloves when removing the seat from the vehicle, and while performing procedures that involve work on or near the seat base.

Remove

  1. Open the LH doors and lower the LH windows.
  2. Move the driver seat forward.
  3. Insert the seat belt release key (1133787-00-A) into the bottom of the seatbelt pretensioner coupling to release the seatbelt from the pretensioner.
  4. Move the driver seat height to its highest position.

    CAUTION
    Do not allow the seat headrest to compress the sun visor as it might crack the mirror.
  5. Remove the driver seat outboard side shield. See Side Shield - Outboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  6. Disconnect the electrical harness from the driver seat tilt motor connector.
  7. Remove the bolts that attach the driver seat tilt motor to the seat frame.
  8. Remove and discard the bolt that attaches the driver seat tilt motor adjustment arm to the seat cushion tilt tube bracket, and then remove the driver seat tilt motor from the seat frame.

Install

  1. Install the driver seat tilt motor to the seat frame.

    Note
    Hold the motor up and against the seat frame, and ensure the motor alignment pins are visible.
  2. Install the bolts (x3) that attach the driver seat tilt motor to the seat frame.
    7.5 Nm (5.5 lbs-ft)
  3. Install a new bolt (P/N: 1109741-00-E or newer) that attaches the driver seat tilt motor adjustment arm to the seat cushion tilt tube bracket.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
  4. Connect the electrical harness to the driver seat tilt motor connector.
  5. Install the driver seat outboard side shield. See Side Shield - Outboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
  6. Install the LH 1st row seatbelt retractor onto the pretensioner.

    Note
    After reinstalling the seatbelt pretensioner into the seatbelt pretensioner coupling, perform a pull test to make sure that the seatbelt and pretensioner are securely engaged.
  7. Replacement front seat assemblies and seat cushion frame assemblies procured after June 2024 are equipped with a newly-designed Tesla "mini-tilt" motor, and replacing these parts (or the tilt motor itself) might require a configuration change. Review the configuration information in the table and perform the following substeps if a configuration update is needed.

    1. Access the Vehicle Configuration section of the Infotainment Dashboard. See Gateway Configuration (Display and Change).
    2. Update cfg_frontSeattype according to the combination of tilt motors described in the table.
  8. Calibrate the driver seat:
    1. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox (Connect and Disconnect).
    2. In Toolbox, click on the Actions/Autodiag tab, and then search for "Calibration".
    3. Click Left Seat Calibration, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

      CAUTION
      Make sure that nothing is on the seat during the calibration routine.
    4. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
