HV Harness - HV Battery to Rear Drive Unit (Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the HEPA filter assembly to the vehicle, and then remove the assembly from the vehicle.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Pivot the rear edge of the assembly upward to clear the brake reservoir, and then lift the assembly upward to clear the underhood storage unit.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10mm socket
  5. Disconnect LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Perform Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure (Structural Pack).
  7. Remove the clip that attaches the rear drive unit inverter inlet hose to the HV battery to rear drive unit HV harness.
  8. Release the spring clip on the rear drive inverter inlet hose, disconnect the hose from the fluid coupling, and then plug the male and female fittings.
  9. Release the rear drive unit 12V harness clip.
  10. Disconnect the rear drive unit 12V electrical connector.
  11. Remove the bolt that attaches the HV battery to rear drive unit HV harness bracket to the rear drive unit.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  12. Release the locking tab on the HV battery to rear drive unit HV harness, and then rotate the release lever up to disengage the connector.

    CAUTION
    Do not force the release lever up.
  13. Carefully route the HV battery to rear drive unit HV harness out of the surrounding components, and then remove the harness from the vehicle.

    Be careful not damage the harness housing or surrounding components.

Install

  1. Carefully position the HV battery to rear drive unit HV harness into the vehicle.

  2. Verify the HV battery to rear drive unit HV harness connector lever is in the upright and open position. Carefully seat the connector and allow the lever to engage. Fully secure the lever and verify the red tab is locked.

    CAUTION
    Be careful not to damage any pins.
  3. Install the bolt that attaches the HV battery to the rear drive unit HV harness bracket to the rear drive unit.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  4. Connect the rear drive unit HV cable to the HV battery.

    Note
    Verify that the lever is in the upright and open position. Carefully seat the connector and allow the lever to engage. Fully secure the lever and verify that the red tab is locked.
  5. Connect the rear drive unit 12V electrical connector.
  6. Install the rear drive unit 12V harness clip.
  7. Remove the hose plug from the rear drive inverter inlet hose, let the coolant drain from the hose, and then connect the hose to the fluid coupling and secure the spring clip.
  8. Remove the hose plugs and connect coolant inlet hose to rear drive unit

    Note
    Perform a push-pull-push test to make sure the hose is fully seated.
  9. Install the clip that attaches the rear drive unit inverter inlet hose to the HV battery to rear drive unit HV harness.
  10. Install the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace).

    Note
    Apply Loctite 222 onto the mid aero shield bolts.
  11. Lower the vehicle fully.
  12. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
  13. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary.
  14. Connect 12V/LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  15. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  16. In Toolbox, click the Actions/Autodiag tab, and then search for "Purge".
  17. Click TEST_VCFRONT_X_THERMAL-COOLANT-AIR-PURGEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode:
    • Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Coolant Purge Stop or Coolant Purge Start
    • Thermal ➜ Coolant System ➜ Coolant Purge Start
    via Service Mode Plus:
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Front Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Left Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Right Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Unit ➜ Front Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    • Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Coolant Air Purge
    , and then click Run and allow the routine to complete.

    Note
    Make sure vehicle is not in drive state. Putting the vehicle into drive state will stop the routine.

    If speeds hover at 7000 RPM, that means the pumps are air locked. Perform vacuum fill again.

    Continue to add coolant and purge until the coolant level reaches between the NOM and MAX lines on the bottle.

    Test lasts approximately 10 mins.

    Click the X at the top right of the window to close once complete.
  18. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary.
  19. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
  20. Position the HEPA filter assembly into the vehicle, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the assembly to the vehicle.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Pivot the front edge of the assembly down past the underhood storage unit, and then carefully move the rear edge past the brake reservoir and into position.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10mm socket
  21. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  22. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  23. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
