- Open the LH front door.
- Lower the LH front window.

Raise and support the vehicle.
-
Open the hood.
-
Remove the rear apron.
-
Remove frunk access panel
Note3x clips, 3x guide tabs, 1x connector

Remove fasteners securing frunk assembly
Note(*Use this ALL MODELS version of the step for multiple-model type procedures) 5x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Newer vehicles may be equipped with 4x bolts and 1x push clip securing frunk to reservoir neck

Remove frunk assembly from vehicle
Note4x clips, Replace any clips if broken or missing
-
Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
-
Select ‘Actions/Autodiag’ and search for ‘Thermal’
-
Select "Thermal Fluid Fill/Drain", click Run and allow routine to complete
NoteSelect ‘X’ at top right of window to close once complete, For AC related repairs verify all EXV's are in proper position, For all coolant related repairs verify vehicle is in Series, Thermal Fluid Fill/Drain routine has a 5 hour timeout, Routine will continuously run and not end

Disconnect Toolbox from vehicle and remove laptop and diagnostics adapter ethernet harness
NoteIf RJ45 ethernet diagnostic connector present media converter box not required disconnect directly from laptop using an RJ45 Ethernet cable or from OBDII connection

Power off vehicle from center display
NoteVia Controls > Safety > Power Off, Select Power Off button at warning dialogue box

Disconnect the 12V negative battery cable and First Responder Loop.
-
Disconnect the connector from active grille shutter actuator
Note1x locking electrical connector, Do not push down on red tab, Pull red tab to disengage lock, Pull again to release connector

Remove ambient temperature sensor cover from active grille shutter
-
Disconnect connector to ambient temperature sensor
Note1x connector

Remove bolts securing frunk support beam to vehicle
Note2x bolts, E14 or 16mm, 48 Nm
-
Remove frunk support beam from cooling fan module assembly
Note2x mounts, 2x tabs, Slide beam toward rear of vehicle
-
Raise vehicle fully and lower lift onto locks
NoteSet vehicle to comfortable working height, Ensure an audible click of locks on both sides is heard before lowering, Vehicle may tilt to the side if both locks are not engaged

Remove the outer fasteners from the front aero shield.
-
Remove the remaining nuts (x2), and then remove the front aero shield from the vehicle.

Remove clips that secure front valance to LH wheel liner
Note3x clips

Remove clips that secure front valance to RH wheel liner

Release harness clip and connector to super horn
Note1x locking connector, 1x clip, Pull tab to disengage lock, Pull again release from connector, horn is located behind RH wheel liner, Connector access may vary depending on the revision of super horn audio speaker, Require to use a pocket screw driver or miniature pick to release the red locking tab covered by anti-tampering feature

Remove nut securing RH corner of front valance to front fascia
Note1x nut, 10mm, 3 Nm

Remove clips securing RH corner of front valance to front fascia
Note2x clips

Remove nut securing LH corner of front valance to front fascia
Note1x nut, 10mm, 3 Nm

Remove clips securing LH corner of front valance to front fascia

Remove clips securing front valance to front fascia and remove front valance

Place coolant drain container below LH front of vehicle
-
Disconnect radiator inlet house from radiator and allow coolant to drain
Note1x spring clip, Plug hose and radiator as needed

Place coolant drain container below RH front of vehicle
-
Disconnect the radiator outlet and allow coolant to drain
Note1x spring clip, Plug hose and radiator

Disconnect cooling fan module connector
Note1x connector

Remove RH bolt securing cooling fan module assembly to front support beam
Note1x bolt, 8mm, 10 Nm, Recommend assistance to support the cooling fan module assembly

Remove LH bolt securing cooling fan module assembly to front support beam
Note1x bolt, 8mm, 10 Nm, Recommend assistance to support the cooling fan module assembly

Remove cooling fan module assembly to rest on vehicle

Release locking tabs securing active grill shutter to cooling fan and shroud assembly and remove active grill shutter

Release Radiator from fan shroud

Clean debris from radiator
NoteVacuum both sides of radiator, Do not damage fins of radiator

Clean radiator with compressed air

Install radiator into cooling fan and shroud assembly
Note2x holding mounts, 2x locking tabs

Install active grill shutter to cooling fan and shroud assembly

Remove support from cooling fan module
NoteRemove bungee cord, recommend assistance to support the cooling fan module assembly during installation
-
Torque LH bolt securing cooling fan module assembly to front end carrier
Note1x bolt, 8mm, 10 Nm

Torque RH bolt securing cooling fan module assembly to front end carrier
Note1x bolt, 8mm, 10 Nm
-
Install radiator outlet hose to radiator
Note1x spring clip, Remove plugs from both ends of coolant connection, Perform push-pull-push test to make sure hose is fully seated

Install radiator inlet hose to radiator
Note1x spring clip, Remove plugs from both ends of coolant connection, Perform push-pull-push test to make sure hose is fully seated

Connect cooling fan module connector
Note1x connector

Position front valance to front fascia and install clips securing front valance to front fascia
Note6x clips, Recommend assistance

Install clips securing LH corner of front valance to front fascia
Note2x clips
-
Install nut securing LH corner of front valance to front fascia
Note1x nut, 10mm, 3 Nm
-
Install clips securing RH corner of front valance to front fascia
Note2x clips
-
Install nut securing RH corner of front valance to front fascia
Note1x nut, 10mm, 3 Nm

Secure connection and clip for super horn
Note1x connector, 1x clip, Engage locking tab

Install clips to secure front valance to LH wheel liner
Note3x clips

Install clips to secure front valance to RH wheel liner

Position the front aero shield on the vehicle, and then install the nuts that attach the aero shield to the vehicle.
-
Apply Loctite 222 on the front aero shield bolts, and then install the bolts on the aero shield.
-
Lower vehicle until tires are touching ground
NoteRaise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered
-
Position frunk support beam to cooling fan module assembly
Note2x mounts, 2x tabs, Align mounts with CFM tabs

Install frunk support beam to cooling fan module assembly
Note2x bolts, E14 or 16mm, 48 Nm
-
Connect connector to ambient temperature sensor
Note1x connector
-
Install ambient temperature sensor cover into active grille shutter
-
Install connector to active grille shutter actuator
Note1x connector , Engage locking tab
-
Remove coolant bottle cap
-
Place empty coolant container into front storage area
-
Fill container with coolant
NoteFill with at least 15L of
-
Place filled coolant container into front storage area
Note(*Use step for Model Y vehicles)

Close air inlet and coolant refill valves
-
Install coolant reservoir adapter cap
onto coolant bottle assembly
Note(*Use step for Model Y & NV36 coolant procedures)1x adapter cap, Adapter found in Vacuum Refill kit, turn clockwise to tighten cap onto coolant bottle

Setup vacuum refill tool
NoteVerify all valves on refill tool are in the closed position, See image for clarity
-
Connect vacuum refill hose to refill cap on coolant bottle
NotePerform push-pull-push test to verify hose is fully engaged
-
Place end of overflow hose into empty container
-
Place refill hose inside filled coolant container
NoteMake sure hose end is fully submerged into coolant
-
Connect shop air supply to coolant refill tool
NoteIf not already done, Verify refill valve is set to off
-
Open air inlet valve to draw a vacuum, Once gauge stabilizes, Fully close valve
NoteGauge stabilizes roughly (60-70 cmHg), Vacuum should not drop after the valves are closed
-
Slowly open refill valve to allow coolant to be drawn into system
NoteMake sure hose end of refill hose is fully submerged during entire process
-
Once gauge reads zero, close refill valve
-
Slowly open coolant refill valve to allow coolant to be drawn into system
NoteMake sure end of coolant refill hose is fully submerged during entire process
-
Monitor gauge for 30 seconds to verify a vacuum is maintained in cooling system
-
Reopen air inlet valve for 3 minutes to continue evacuating cooling system, then close valve
-
Disconnect shop air supply from coolant refill tool
-
Remove coolant refill hose from coolant container
-
Remove coolant overflow hose from coolant container
-
Disconnect vacuum refill hose from refill cap on coolant bottle
-
Remove coolant refill tool from vehicle
-
Remove both coolant containers from inside underhood area
Note(*Use this step for Model Y vehicles)

Connect the First Responder Loop and 12V negative battery cable.

Connect to vehicle using Toolbox
NoteVehicle connection is integrated into drivers footwell cover, Navigate to https://toolbox.teslamotors.com and establish connection to vehicle, Select connection status icon at top right corner then select connect locally, Icon will turn green when connected, Successful connection will automatically unlock vehicle gateway and place UI in Service Mode Plus, If RJ45 ethernet diagnostic connector present connect directly from laptop using an RJ45 Ethernet cable, Vehicles built 4/5/2024 onwards have OBDII connection integrated into drivers lower IP cover, Use OBDII connection if this applies, Some vehicles may have both RJ45 and OBDII, If vehicle has both RJ45 and OBD-II then connect via RJ45, For local connection issues with Toolbox refer to https://toolbox.teslamotors.com/articles/43695

Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.

Install frunk assembly to vehicle

Install fasteners securing frunk assembly
Note5x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Newer vehicles may be equipped with 1x push clip securing frunk to washer bottle neck

Install frunk access panel
Note3x clips, 1x connector

Install the rear apron.
-
Close the hood.
- Raise the LH front window.
- Close the LH front door.
