Correction code 18301200 1.20 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the correction code and FRT listed above reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so. NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. NOTE: See Personal Protection to make sure you are wearing proper PPE when performing the procedure below. NOTE: See Ergonomic Precautions for safe and healthy working practices.

1. Open the LH front door.
2. Lower the LH front window.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.

   

   

   

   

4. Open the hood.

   

5. Remove the rear apron.

   

   

6. Remove frunk access panel
   Note

   3x clips, 3x guide tabs, 1x connector

   

   

7. Remove fasteners securing frunk assembly
   Note

   (*Use this ALL MODELS version of the step for multiple-model type procedures) 5x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Newer vehicles may be equipped with 4x bolts and 1x push clip securing frunk to reservoir neck

   

   

8. Remove frunk assembly from vehicle
   Note

   4x clips, Replace any clips if broken or missing

   

   

9. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.

   

10. Select ‘Actions/Autodiag’ and search for ‘Thermal’

    

11. Select "Thermal Fluid Fill/Drain", click Run and allow routine to complete
    Note

    Select ‘X’ at top right of window to close once complete, For AC related repairs verify all EXV's are in proper position, For all coolant related repairs verify vehicle is in Series, Thermal Fluid Fill/Drain routine has a 5 hour timeout, Routine will continuously run and not end

    

    

    

12. Disconnect Toolbox from vehicle and remove laptop and diagnostics adapter ethernet harness
    Note

    If RJ45 ethernet diagnostic connector present media converter box not required disconnect directly from laptop using an RJ45 Ethernet cable or from OBDII connection

    

    

    

    

    

13. Power off vehicle from center display
    Note

    Via Controls > Safety > Power Off, Select Power Off button at warning dialogue box

    

    

14. Disconnect the 12V negative battery cable and First Responder Loop.

    

    

15. Disconnect the connector from active grille shutter actuator
    Note

    1x locking electrical connector, Do not push down on red tab, Pull red tab to disengage lock, Pull again to release connector

    

16. Remove ambient temperature sensor cover from active grille shutter

    

17. Disconnect connector to ambient temperature sensor
    Note

    1x connector

    

18. Remove bolts securing frunk support beam to vehicle
    Note

    2x bolts, E14 or 16mm, 48 Nm

    

19. Remove frunk support beam from cooling fan module assembly
    Note

    2x mounts, 2x tabs, Slide beam toward rear of vehicle

    

    

20. Raise vehicle fully and lower lift onto locks
    Note

    Set vehicle to comfortable working height, Ensure an audible click of locks on both sides is heard before lowering, Vehicle may tilt to the side if both locks are not engaged

    

    

21. Remove the outer fasteners from the front aero shield.

    

22. Remove the remaining nuts (x2), and then remove the front aero shield from the vehicle.

    

23. Remove clips that secure front valance to LH wheel liner
    Note

    3x clips

    

    

24. Remove clips that secure front valance to RH wheel liner
    Note

    3x clips

    

    

25. Release harness clip and connector to super horn
    Note

    1x locking connector, 1x clip, Pull tab to disengage lock, Pull again release from connector, horn is located behind RH wheel liner, Connector access may vary depending on the revision of super horn audio speaker, Require to use a pocket screw driver or miniature pick to release the red locking tab covered by anti-tampering feature

    

    

26. Remove nut securing RH corner of front valance to front fascia
    Note

    1x nut, 10mm, 3 Nm

    

27. Remove clips securing RH corner of front valance to front fascia
    Note

    2x clips

    

28. Remove nut securing LH corner of front valance to front fascia
    Note

    1x nut, 10mm, 3 Nm

    

29. Remove clips securing LH corner of front valance to front fascia
    Note

    2x clips

    

30. Remove clips securing front valance to front fascia and remove front valance
    Note

    6x clips, Recommend assistance

    

    

31. Place coolant drain container below LH front of vehicle

    

32. Disconnect radiator inlet house from radiator and allow coolant to drain
    Note

    1x spring clip, Plug hose and radiator as needed

    

33. Place coolant drain container below RH front of vehicle

    

34. Disconnect the radiator outlet and allow coolant to drain
    Note

    1x spring clip, Plug hose and radiator

    

35. Disconnect cooling fan module connector
    Note

    1x connector

    

36. Remove RH bolt securing cooling fan module assembly to front support beam
    Note

    1x bolt, 8mm, 10 Nm, Recommend assistance to support the cooling fan module assembly

    

37. Remove LH bolt securing cooling fan module assembly to front support beam
    Note

    1x bolt, 8mm, 10 Nm, Recommend assistance to support the cooling fan module assembly

    

38. Remove cooling fan module assembly to rest on vehicle
    Note

    Recommend assistance

    

39. Release locking tabs securing active grill shutter to cooling fan and shroud assembly and remove active grill shutter
    Note

    14x locking tabs

    

    

    

    

40. Release Radiator from fan shroud
    Note

    2x tabs, 2x mounts, If stone guard is not present on new radiator then proceed to 18302500402

    

    

    

    

41. Clean debris from radiator
    Note

    Vacuum both sides of radiator, Do not damage fins of radiator

    

    

42. Clean radiator with compressed air
    Note

    Clean both sides of radiator with compressed air, Do not damage fins of radiator

    

    

    

43. Install radiator into cooling fan and shroud assembly
    Note

    2x holding mounts, 2x locking tabs

    

    

    

44. Install active grill shutter to cooling fan and shroud assembly
    Note

    14x locking tabs

    

    

    

45. Remove support from cooling fan module
    Note

    Remove bungee cord, recommend assistance to support the cooling fan module assembly during installation

    

    

46. Torque LH bolt securing cooling fan module assembly to front end carrier
    Note

    1x bolt, 8mm, 10 Nm

    

47. Torque RH bolt securing cooling fan module assembly to front end carrier
    Note

    1x bolt, 8mm, 10 Nm

    

48. Install radiator outlet hose to radiator
    Note

    1x spring clip, Remove plugs from both ends of coolant connection, Perform push-pull-push test to make sure hose is fully seated

    

49. Install radiator inlet hose to radiator
    Note

    1x spring clip, Remove plugs from both ends of coolant connection, Perform push-pull-push test to make sure hose is fully seated

    

50. Connect cooling fan module connector
    Note

    1x connector

    

51. Position front valance to front fascia and install clips securing front valance to front fascia
    Note

    6x clips, Recommend assistance

    

52. Install clips securing LH corner of front valance to front fascia
    Note

    2x clips

    

53. Install nut securing LH corner of front valance to front fascia
    Note

    1x nut, 10mm, 3 Nm

    

54. Install clips securing RH corner of front valance to front fascia
    Note

    2x clips

    

55. Install nut securing RH corner of front valance to front fascia
    Note

    1x nut, 10mm, 3 Nm

    

56. Secure connection and clip for super horn
    Note

    1x connector, 1x clip, Engage locking tab

    

    

57. Install clips to secure front valance to LH wheel liner
    Note

    3x clips

    

    

58. Install clips to secure front valance to RH wheel liner
    Note

    3x clips

    

    

59. Position the front aero shield on the vehicle, and then install the nuts that attach the aero shield to the vehicle.

    

60. Apply Loctite 222 on the front aero shield bolts, and then install the bolts on the aero shield.

    

    

61. Lower vehicle until tires are touching ground
    Note

    Raise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered

    

    

    

62. Position frunk support beam to cooling fan module assembly
    Note

    2x mounts, 2x tabs, Align mounts with CFM tabs

    

63. Install frunk support beam to cooling fan module assembly
    Note

    2x bolts, E14 or 16mm, 48 Nm

    

64. Connect connector to ambient temperature sensor
    Note

    1x connector

    

65. Install ambient temperature sensor cover into active grille shutter

    

66. Install connector to active grille shutter actuator
    Note

    1x connector , Engage locking tab

    

67. Remove coolant bottle cap

    

    

68. Place empty coolant container into front storage area

    

69. Fill container with coolant
    Note

    Fill with at least 15L of

    

70. Place filled coolant container into front storage area
    Note

    (*Use step for Model Y vehicles)

    

71. Close air inlet and coolant refill valves

    

    

72. Install coolant reservoir adapter cap onto coolant bottle assembly
    Note

    (*Use step for Model Y & NV36 coolant procedures)1x adapter cap, Adapter found in Vacuum Refill kit, turn clockwise to tighten cap onto coolant bottle

    

    

    

73. Setup vacuum refill tool
    Note

    Verify all valves on refill tool are in the closed position, See image for clarity

    

    

74. Connect vacuum refill hose to refill cap on coolant bottle
    Note

    Perform push-pull-push test to verify hose is fully engaged

    

    

75. Place end of overflow hose into empty container

    

76. Place refill hose inside filled coolant container
    Note

    Make sure hose end is fully submerged into coolant

    

    

77. Connect shop air supply to coolant refill tool
    Note

    If not already done, Verify refill valve is set to off

    

78. Open air inlet valve to draw a vacuum, Once gauge stabilizes, Fully close valve
    Note

    Gauge stabilizes roughly (60-70 cmHg), Vacuum should not drop after the valves are closed

    

    

79. Slowly open refill valve to allow coolant to be drawn into system
    Note

    Make sure hose end of refill hose is fully submerged during entire process

    

80. Once gauge reads zero, close refill valve

    

    

81. Slowly open coolant refill valve to allow coolant to be drawn into system
    Note

    Make sure end of coolant refill hose is fully submerged during entire process

    

82. Monitor gauge for 30 seconds to verify a vacuum is maintained in cooling system

    

83. Reopen air inlet valve for 3 minutes to continue evacuating cooling system, then close valve

    

    

84. Disconnect shop air supply from coolant refill tool

    

85. Remove coolant refill hose from coolant container

    

86. Remove coolant overflow hose from coolant container

    

87. Disconnect vacuum refill hose from refill cap on coolant bottle

    

    

88. Remove coolant refill tool from vehicle

    

    

89. Remove both coolant containers from inside underhood area
    Note

    (*Use this step for Model Y vehicles)

    

90. Connect the First Responder Loop and 12V negative battery cable.

    

    

91. Connect to vehicle using Toolbox
    Note

    Vehicle connection is integrated into drivers footwell cover, Navigate to https://toolbox.teslamotors.com and establish connection to vehicle, Select connection status icon at top right corner then select connect locally, Icon will turn green when connected, Successful connection will automatically unlock vehicle gateway and place UI in Service Mode Plus, If RJ45 ethernet diagnostic connector present connect directly from laptop using an RJ45 Ethernet cable, Vehicles built 4/5/2024 onwards have OBDII connection integrated into drivers lower IP cover, Use OBDII connection if this applies, Some vehicles may have both RJ45 and OBDII, If vehicle has both RJ45 and OBD-II then connect via RJ45, For local connection issues with Toolbox refer to https://toolbox.teslamotors.com/articles/43695

99. Install frunk assembly to vehicle

    4x clips, 3x locator pins, Replace any clips if broken or missing

    

    

    

100. Install fasteners securing frunk assembly
     Note

     5x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, Newer vehicles may be equipped with 1x push clip securing frunk to washer bottle neck

     

     

101. Install frunk access panel
     Note

     3x clips, 1x connector

     

     

102. Install the rear apron.

     

     

103. Close the hood.

     

104. Raise the LH front window.
