Basic Vehicle Inspection (Inspection)

Note
This procedure details how to perform the Basic Vehicle Inspection. Fill out SC-26-00-006 while performing this procedure.

Remove

  1. Open all doors from the exterior. Verify that the door operates normally and does not do any of the following:
    • Collide with the body or brightwork
    • Produce unusual noises such as creaks, groans, or clicks
    • Pause or fail to fully open
  2. Function check all windows from the LH front switch. Document any abnormal operation or noises.
  3. Function check exterior lights. Verify that the following lights operate normally:
    • Headlights (LH and RH)
    • Fog lights (LH and RH)
    • Taillights (LH and RH)
    • Center high mount stopping light (third brake light)
    • Reverse lights (LH and RH)
    • Side repeaters (LH and RH)
    • Front turn signals (LH and RH)
    • Rear turn signals (LH and RH)
  4. Close the door and hood, then function check the windshield wipers and spray jets. Verify the following:
    • The wipers and jets function
    • The wipers move in a full range of motion
    • The wipers move at all speeds
    • The wipers do not interfere with other components
    • The wipers do not produce abnormal noises such as creaks, groans, and clicks
    • The wipers do not pause
  5. Honk the horn. Verify that both high- and low-tone horns produce sound.
  6. Open the hood.
  7. Remove the rear apron
    Note
    14x clips
  8. Visually inspect the brake fluid level.
  9. Visually inspect the coolant level. Ensure that the fluid level is at the Max line. Top off as necessary.
  10. Remove the front aeroshield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace) or Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace).
  11. Install the LH and RH suspension covers. See Cover - Rear Suspension - LH (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the rear aeroshield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  13. Check tire pressures and adjust to specification as necessary. Inspect tires and wheels for damage or deformities.
    Note
    Refer to the "Tire and Loading Information" label located on the driver side B-pillar.
  14. Record outer, center, and inner tread depths for all tires.
    Warning
    Measure the circumferential tire grooves only. Do not place the tire tread gauge probe on the molded treadwear indicators. Recommend replacement if tread depth is 4/32in (3mm) or less.
    Note
  15. Inspect all brake pads.
    Note
    Recommend replacement if 2mm or less. Check both inboard and outboard pads
  16. Inspect all brake rotors for excessive wear or rust. See Brakes for minimum specs.
  17. Perform visual inspection of all brake pipes and hoses
    Note
    Pay special attention to brake junction points
  18. Inspect the front and rear vehicle underside components.
    Note
    Check for signs of abnormal damage, wear, heavy rust, wiring damage, or impact damage, Pay attention to safety related component and note any items of significance
  19. Inspect the underside of vehicle for fluid leaks.
  20. Inspect the steering components.
    Note
    Check steering gear joints and electrical connections. Verify components are not bent or damaged
  21. Visually inspect the HV battery enclosure.
    Note
    Check for any dents, scrapes, or other damage
  22. Inspect the front suspension components
    Note
    Check conditions of ball joints and bushings, etc, Inspect for any loose fasteners, Carefully apply pressure with a pry bar as needed
  23. Inspect the rear suspension components
    Note
    Check conditions of ball joints and bushings, etc, Inspect for any loose fasteners, Carefully apply pressure with a pry bar as needed
  24. Install the rear aeroshield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  25. Install the LH and RH suspension covers. See Cover - Rear Suspension - LH (Remove and Replace).
  26. Install the front aeroshield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace) or Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace).
  27. Lower the vehicle fully.
    Note
    Raise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered
  28. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
    Note
    Lower the rack arms fully and remove them from under vehicle.
  29. Fill the washer reservoir with fluid.
  30. Install the rear apron
    Note
    14x clips, Hold rear wall of frunk to keep from flexing while engaging front clips
  31. Close the hood.
  32. Perform a road test.
    1. Perform a series of ABS-active stops and ensure proper brake pedal feel and performance.
      Note
      The vehicle must stop completely within 25 feet (7.6 meters) at 20 mph (32 kph), Confirm that no excessive vibration or noise is present.
    2. Check the vehicle alignment.
      Note
      Confirm steering wheel is straight and no vibrations or noises are felt or heard from the suspension. On a flat road, at 35 mph (56 kph), the vehicle should not pull in either direction.
