Surround - Steering Wheel (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Remove the HEPA filter assembly. See Assembly - Filter - HEPA (Remove and Replace).
  2. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  3. Remove the driver airbag. See Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  4. Disconnect the steering wheel electrical wiring harness connector.
  5. Disconnect the LH steering wheel switch electrical connector. Repeat this step for the RH steering wheel switch electrical connector.

  6. Release the clips (x3) that attach the horn to the steering wheel assembly.

    Note
    Pull the horn assembly straight out to release it.
  7. Disconnect the lower electrical connector from the steering wheel controller, and then remove the horn assembly from the steering wheel.
  8. Remove the bolts that attach the steering wheel surround to the steering wheel.
    5.4 Nm (4.0 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Pry the lower portion of the bright surround first.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T20 socket
    • 4 in extension
  9. Remove the bolts that attach the RH steering wheel switch to the steering wheel surround, and then remove the switch from the assembly.
    0.9 Nm (8 lbs-in)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T10 Torx bit
  10. Remove the bolts that attach the steering wheel controller to the steering wheel surround.
    0.9 Nm (8 lbs-in)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T10 Torx bit
  11. Remove the bolts that attach the LH steering wheel switch to the steering wheel surround, and then remove the switch from the assembly.
    0.9 Nm (8 lbs-in)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T10 Torx bit
  12. Remove the bolts that attach the lower spoke cover to the steering wheel surround.
    0.9 Nm (8 lbs-in)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T10 Torx bit

Install

  1. Position the lower spoke cover onto the steering wheel surround, and then install the bolts.
    0.9 Nm (8 lbs-in)

    Note
    Insert the lower edge of the lower spoke.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T10 Torx bit
  2. Install the bolts that attach the steering wheel controller to the steering wheel surround.
    0.9 Nm (8 lbs-in)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T10 Torx bit
  3. Position the LH steering wheel switch onto the steering wheel surround, and then install the bolts.
    0.9 Nm (8 lbs-in)

    Take note of the correct installation position.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T10 Torx bit
  4. Position the RH steering wheel switch onto the steering wheel surround, and then install the bolts.
    0.9 Nm (8 lbs-in)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T10 Torx bit
  5. Position the steering wheel surround onto the steering wheel, and then install the bolts.
    5.4 Nm (4.0 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T20 socket
    • 4 in extension
  6. Position the horn to the steering wheel assembly, and then fasten the clips.
  7. Connect the LH steering wheel switch electrical connector. Repeat this step for the RH steering wheel switch electrical connector.

  8. Connect the lower connection from the steering wheel controller, and then remove the horn assembly from the steering wheel.
  9. Connect the steering wheel electrical wiring harness connector.
  10. Install the driver airbag. See Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  11. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  12. Install the HEPA filter assembly. See Assembly - Filter - HEPA (Remove and Replace).
