Lumbar Support - Back Rest - Front Passenger Seat (Remove and Replace)

Seat base edges are sharp and can cause personal injury. Wear cut resistant gloves when removing the seat from the vehicle, and while performing procedures that involve work on or near the seat base.

Remove

  1. Remove the headrest from the driver seatback. See Trim - Headrest - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  2. Move the front passenger seat to the most forward and upward position, and adjust seat back as needed to provide more space for subsequent operations.
  3. Adjust the RH front lumbar to the rearmost position.

    Note
    Evacuate the air in the air bag to allow seatback suspension removal.
  4. Remove the front passenger seat back shell. See Shell - Seat Back - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  5. Disconnect the 12V/LV battery power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Remove the front passenger seat back trim retainers from the seat back frame.
  7. Pull the flaps straight up off of the retaining tabs to release the flaps that cover the outboard corner of the front passenger seat back frame.
  8. Pull the front passenger seat back trim away from the front passenger seat side airbag to gain access to the air bag electrical connector.

  9. Disconnect the front passenger seat side airbag and pull the orange tabs (x2) down to release the connector.

  10. Remove the bolt that attaches the lumbar support assembly to the seat frame.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 2 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
  11. Release the tabs(x2) that attach the bottom of the lumbar support to the seat back frame.
  12. Disconnect the electrical harness from the recliner motor connector.
  13. Disconnect the electrical harness from the lumbar valve pack and ECU.
  14. Disconnect the electrical harness from the lumbar pump connector.
  15. Release the clips (x2) that attach the seat harness to the lumbar assembly.
  16. Squeeze the three lobes on the retaining clips (x2) that attach the lumbar pump to the seat frame, and then push the clip through the frame to release.

  17. Push the bottom of the back rest lumbar support away from the seat back frame, slide the assembly down to clear lumbar assembly from frame, and then remove the support from the seat assembly.

Install

  1. Slide the top of the lumbar assembly posts into the top of the seat back frame, push the assembly in toward the foam, slide the assembly down toward the bottom of the seat frame, and then clip the bottom of the assembly to the bottom of the seat frame.
  2. Secure the retaining clips (x2) that attach the lumbar pump to the seat frame.
  3. Install the clips (x2) that attach the seat harness to the lumbar assembly.
  4. Connect the electrical harness to the lumbar pump connector.
  5. Connect the electrical harness to the lumbar valve pack and ECU.
  6. Connect the electrical harness to the recliner motor connector.
  7. Connect the front passenger seat side airbag electrical connector.

  8. Install the tabs(x2) that attach the bottom of the lumbar support to the seat back frame.
  9. Install the bolt that attaches the lumbar support assembly to the seat frame.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

    Note
    The bolt is located below the lumbar ECU.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 2 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
  10. Pull the flaps over the retaining tabs to install the flaps that cover the outboard corner of the front passenger seat back frame.
  11. Install the front passenger seat back trim retainers to the front passenger seat back frame.
  12. Install the front passenger seat back shell. See Shell - Seat Back - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  13. Connect the 12V/LV battery power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  14. Reinstall the vehicle firmware. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen.
  15. Raise all windows and close all doors.
