Bushing - Rear Drive Unit - RH (3DU) (Remove and Replace)

  • 2025-04-02: Shortened procedure by referring to sub-procedures and added step to refer to the wheel alignment tables to define type of alignment required.

Remove

  1. Open all four doors and lower the LH front window.
  2. Enable EPB Service Mode. See Parking Brake - Caliper - Rear - LH (Release).
  3. Disconnect 12V/LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  4. Perform the vehicle HV disablement procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
  5. Remove the rear subframe assembly. See Subframe Assembly - Rear (Remove and Install).
  6. Remove the rear drive unit. See Drive Unit - Rear (3DU) (Remove and Install).
  7. Attach RDU engine stand adapter to RDU.

    3x bolts, 15mm, 3x nuts, 15mm, Hand tight, Recommend assistance.
  8. Attach gantry hook to RDU adapter.
  9. Using gantry, lift RDU assembly for installation onto engine stand.
  10. Move engine stand into position.
  11. Install RDU adapter to engine stand.

  12. Install bushing removal tool on RH front bushing.

    2x nuts, 22mm, use cups "C", "A", and "G" to drive bushing out, always drive on the bearing side and hold the opposite
  13. Press bushing out from casting.

    Set up bushing removal tool with the bearing away from the drive unit, the threaded rod is very close to RDU components and damage to the tool/RDU may occur if the bushing is driven out from the drive unit side.
  14. Separate bushing tool and remove bushing.

Install

  1. Prepare to install the new bushing

    Before installation, check whether the bushing is intact and spray lubricant on the outside of the bushing.
  2. Setup the tool to press in the new bushing.

    2x nuts, 22mm, use cup "E" and "D", always drive on the bearing side and hold the opposite.
  3. Press in the new bushing.

    Ensure keyway is facing towards the top of the drive unit, parallel to the drive unit.
  4. Separate the bushing tool and remove it from the drive unit.
  5. Using the gantry hook, support the RDU engine stand adapter, applying tension.
  6. Remove the bolts that attach the RDU engine stand adapter to the engine stand and move engine stand away.

  7. Lower the RDU and engine stand adapter onto the crate.
  8. Remove the gantry hook from the RDU adapter and move it aside.
  9. Remove the RDU engine stand adapter from the RDU.

  10. Install the rear drive unit to the subframe. See Drive Unit - Rear (3DU) (Remove and Install).
  11. Install the rear subframe assembly. See Subframe Assembly - Rear (Remove and Install).
  12. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
