Beam - Cross Car (Remove and Replace)

Reuse

Remove

  1. Remove the instrument panel carrier from the cross car beam. See IP Carrier (Remove and Install)
  2. Remove the driver side air wave duct. See Duct - Air Wave - LH (Remove and Replace).
  3. Disconnect the instrument panel harness connectors. See Harness - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).

    Note
    No need to separate the harness and the cross car beam at this time.
  4. Disconnect the electrical harness from the steering column connector.
  5. Remove the nuts that attach the steering column to the cross car beam.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • 3 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  6. Release the clips (x2) that attach the carpets to the LH and RH cross car beam brackets.
  7. Remove the nuts (x2) that attach the LH and RH cross car beam brackets to the body.

    Note
    Slightly pull the LH carpet towards the LH side of vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 6 in extension
    • 13 mm socket
  8. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH and RH cross car beam brackets to the cross car beam, and then remove the brackets from the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
    • 13 mm socket
  9. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  10. Remove the bolt that attaches the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly on the upper LH side of the HVAC assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  11. Remove the bolt that attaches the cross car beam to the upper cowl.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Combination Wrench 12pt 13mm
  12. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam to the LH side and RH side of body.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 15 mm socket
    • 3 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  13. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the cross car beam to the LH side of bulkhead.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 10 in extension
    • Swivel Ball 13 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  14. With assistance, remove the cross car beam from the vehicle.
  15. Release the clips (x15) and remove the IP harness from the cross car beam.

Install

  1. Install the clips (x15) to attach the IP harness to the cross car beam.
  2. With assistance, install the cross car beam into the vehicle.
  3. Loosely install the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam to the LH side and RH side of body.
  4. Loosely install the bolt that attaches the cross car beam to the upper cowl.
  5. Loosely install the bolt that attaches the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly on the upper LH side of the HVAC assembly.
  6. Loosely install bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly.
  7. Position the LH and RH cross car beam brackets to the cross car beam, and then loosely install the nuts (x2) that attach the brackets to body.
  8. Loosely install the bolt that attaches the LH and RH cross car beam brackets to the cross car beam.
  9. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the cross car beam to the LH side of the bulkhead.
    25 Nm (18.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 10 in extension
    • Swivel Ball 13 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  10. Torque the bolts (x2) that attach the LH and RH cross car beam brackets to the cross car beam.
    25 Nm (18.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
    • 13 mm socket
  11. Torque the nuts (x2) that attach the LH and RH cross car beam brackets to the body.
    25 Nm (18.4 lbs-ft)

  12. Install the clips (x2) that attach the carpets to the LH and RH cross car beam brackets.
  13. Torque the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly.
    5.5 Nm (4.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  14. Torque the bolt that attaches the cross car beam to the HVAC assembly on the upper LH side of the HVAC assembly.
    5.5 Nm (4.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  15. Torque the bolt that attaches the cross car beam to the upper cowl.
    25 Nm (18.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • Flare Nut Crowfoot 13 mm socket
  16. Torque the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam to the LH side and RH side of body.
    29 Nm (21.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 15 mm socket
    • 3 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  17. Install the nuts that attach the steering column to the cross car beam.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • 3 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  18. Connect the electrical harness on the steering column connector.
  19. Install the instrument panel harness. See Harness - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  20. Install the driver side air wave duct. See Duct - Air Wave - LH (Remove and Replace).
  21. Install the instrument panel carrier. See IP Carrier (Remove and Install)
