Harness - Liftgate (Remove and Replace)

  • 2023-04-17: Added step for removing the RH upper C-pillar trim.

Remove

  1. Open all the doors and lower all the windows.
  2. Open the liftgate.
  3. Move the front seats forward.
  4. Fold the RH 2nd row seat back to the down position.
  5. Push to open the LH rear coat hook.
  6. Pry open the LH rear coat hook screw cover with a small flat head screwdriver.
  7. Remove the screw that attaches the LH rear coat hook to the body.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
    • Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 Nm - 2.0 Nm screwdriver (installation only)
    • 2 in extension
  8. Repeat step 5 through step 7 for the RH coat hook.
  9. Remove the upper liftgate trim. See Trim - Upper - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the lower liftgate trim. See Trim - Liftgate - Lower (Remove and Replace).
  11. Disconnect the electrical harness to the trunk latch actuator connector.
  12. Disconnect the electrical harness to the backup camera connector, the trunk handle connector, and the LH and RH license plate light connectors.
  13. Disconnect the electrical harness to the radio tuner connectors.
  14. Disconnect the electrical harness to the LH and RH liftgate taillight connectors.

  15. Disconnect the electrical harness to LH and RH FM antenna amplifier connectors.

  16. Disconnect the noise filter antenna to the RH side of the backlight glass.
  17. Disconnect the electrical harness to the CHMSL connector.
  18. Release the clips (x3) that attach the RH liftgate side trim bracket to the liftgate, and then release the bracket from the liftgate.
  19. Remove the liftgate harness ground strap.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Inspect the bolt. If the bolt is a self-tapping, tri-lobular bolt (1128269-00-A), then discard. If it is a standard bolt (1447438-00-A), it can be reused.
  20. Release the clips (x10) that attach the liftgate harness to the liftgate.
  21. Remove the RH upper c-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  22. Release the clips (x3) that attach the rear edge of the headliner to the vehicle, and then release the rear of the headliner from the vehicle.

    Note
    Make sure there is enough space to remove the connectors and ground bold.
  23. Remove the liftgate harness ground bolt.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
  24. Disconnect the liftgate harness electrical connectors (x3).
  25. Remove the liftgate harness through access hole, and then fasten the grommet to liftgate assembly.
  26. Remove liftgate harness from the liftgate.

Install

  1. Feed the liftgate harness into the liftgate, and then fasten the grommet to the body and liftgate.
  2. Position the RH liftgate side trim bracket onto the liftgate, and then secure the clips (x3) that attach the bracket to the liftgate.
  3. Connect the liftgate harness electrical connectors (x3).
  4. Install the liftgate harness ground bolt.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Inspect the bolt. If the bolt is a self-tapping, tri-lobular bolt (1128269-00-A), then discard. If it is a standard bolt (1447438-00-A), it can be reused.
  5. Secure the clips (x3) that attach the rear edge of the headliner to the vehicle.
  6. Install the RH upper c-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Install the screw that attaches the LH rear coat hook to the body.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T20 socket
    • Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 Nm - 2.0 Nm screwdriver (installation only)
    • 2 in extension
  8. Close the LH rear coat hook screw cover.
  9. Push to close the LH rear coat hook.
  10. Repeat step 6 through step 8 for the RH coat hook.
  11. Secure the clips (x10) that attach the liftgate harness to the liftgate.
  12. Install the liftgate harness ground strap.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

  13. Connect the electrical harness to LH and RH FM antenna amplifier connectors.

  14. Connect the electrical harness to the CHMSL connector.

  16. Connect the electrical harness to the LH and RH liftgate taillight connectors.

  17. Connect the electrical harness to the radio tuner connectors.
  18. Connect the electrical harness to the backup camera connector, the trunk handle connector, and the LH and RH license plate light connectors.
  19. Connect the electrical harness to the trunk latch actuator connector.
  20. Install the lower liftgate trim. See Trim - Liftgate - Lower (Remove and Replace).
  21. Install the upper liftgate trim. See Trim - Upper - Liftgate (Remove and Replace).
  22. Fold the RH 2nd row seat to the original position.
  23. Move the front seats to the original position.
  24. Raise all the windows and close all the doors.
