Octovalve (Remove and Replace)

Torque Specifications

Replace

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
  5. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Remove the 12V battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the coolant bottle. See Coolant Bottle (Remove and Replace).
  8. Release the connector lock, and then disconnect the Octovalve connector.

    CAUTION
    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling to release the connector.
  9. Remove the screws (x4) that attach the Octovalve to the Supermanifold, and then remove the Octovalve from the vehicle.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 socket

Install

  1. Position the Octovalve to the Supermanifold, and then install the screws (x4) that attach the Octovalve to the Supermanifold.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Make sure the dowels on the Octovalve engage the Supermanifold before installing the fasteners. The Octovalve needs to be flush with the Supermanifold to properly seal.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 socket
  2. Connect the Octovalve connector, and then engage the connector lock.

    CAUTION
    Push the red locking tab towards the connector to engage the locking mechanism. DO NOT push down or pull up on the red locking tab.
  3. Install the coolant bottle. See Coolant Bottle (Remove and Replace).
  4. Install the 12V battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
  5. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  7. In Toolbox, click the Actions/Autodiag tab, type "Thermal" into the search field, click Coolant Valve TestTEST-SELF_VCFRONT_X_FIVE-WAY-VALVEGen3/tasks/TEST-SELF_VCFRONT_X_FIVE-WAY-VALVE Model3/tasks/TEST-SELF_VCFRONT_X_FIVE-WAY-VALVELow Voltage Controllers Low Voltage ControllersThermal / Coolant System - Coolant Valve TestService Mode Service Plus Factory Mode Developer , click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  8.     Note
    Make the sure vehicle is not in drive state. Plan is still running despite the stop message. Coolant pumps will be audible. Test lasts approximately 10 mins. Coolant pump speeds can be monitored in Service Mode + (see Service Mode Plus), in the CAN Viewer submenu. Idle speed = ~1500 RPM. Test will vary speeds from 3500-6500 RPM and actuate valve between SERIES and PARALLEL. Putting the vehicle into drive state will stop this routine. If speeds hover at 7000 RPM, that means the pumps are air locked; perform vacuum fill again. Continue to add coolant and purge until the coolant level reaches between the NOM and MAX Lines on the bottle. Select "X" at the top right of the window to close once complete.
  9. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary.

    Make sure that the fluid level is at the Max line.
  10. Install the coolant bottle cap.
  11.   12. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
  13. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  14. Install the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
  15. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  16. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door..
