This procedure requires the A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge) procedure to be performed. If not already automatically added to the Service Visit, add correction code 18200102 as a separate correction within the same activity to the Service Visit.

Remove

  1. Set up the AC machine.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  3. Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes): PROC_VCFRONT_X_START-THERMAL-FILL-DRAINvia Service Mode:
    • Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Start Thermal Fill/Drain
    • Thermal ➜ Coolant System ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain
    • Thermal ➜ Refrigerant System ➜ Start Refrigerant Fill/Drain
    via Service Mode Plus:
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Front Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Start Fluid Fill/Drain
    • Drive Inverter ➜ Rear Drive Inverter Replacement ➜ Start Fluid Fill/Drain
    • Drive Unit ➜ Front Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain
    • Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain

    Note
    Select "X" at top right of window to close once complete, Thermal Fluid Fill/Drain routine has a 5 hour time limit, After 5 hours EXV's will close and routine must be performed again, Verify EXV positions are open VIA Garage >Thermal > Refrigerant loop EXV, Verify LCC, CC Left, Evap, CC Right, Chiller are all at ~100%. Recirc is at ~20%, LCC Solenoid is OPENED
  4. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the HEPA filter assembly. See Assembly - Filter - HEPA (Remove and Install).
  6. Recover the A/C refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge).
  7. On the touchscreen, make sure that the refrigerant system pressure is at atmospheric level (approx. 1 bar).

    Note
    On the touchscreen, touch Service Mode > Thermal > Refrigerant System.
  8. On the touchscreen, tap Safety > Power Off to power off the vehicle.
  9. Remove A/C hoses from the vehicle.
  10. Carefully depress the Schrader valves (x2) to level out any pressure difference between the A/C system pressure and the actual ambient atmospheric pressure.

    CAUTION
    Make sure to depress both Schrader valves. Failure to do so may result in injury.
  11. Remove the bolt that attaches the supermanifold-to-compressor A/C line to the supermanifold.

  12. Remove the supermanifold-to-compressor A/C line from the supermanifold, and then hang it on the underhood storage unit support beam using an s-hook.

    Note
    Carefully position the line so that oil does not drip out.
  13. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the high pressure and temperature sensor.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  14. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the recirc EXV (expansion valve).

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  15. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the liquid cooled condenser EXV.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  16. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the liquid cooled condenser shut off valve.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  17. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the right side cabin condenser EXV.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  18. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the high pressure and temperature subcool sensor.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  19. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the left side cabin condenser EXV.

    CAUTION
    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  20. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the chiller EXV.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  21. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the evap EXV.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  22. Remove the supermanifold harness from the supermanifold and rest it on the frunk support beam.
  23. Remove the bolt that attaches the liquid cooled condenser shut off valve coil to the shut off valve.

  24. Remove the liquid cooled condenser shut off valve connector assembly from the supermanifold.
  25. Remove the liquid cooled condenser shut off valve from the supermanifold.

    Use only hand tools to remove the shut off valve. Impact or power tools will break the threads.

Install

  1. Lubricate the liquid cooled condenser shut off valve threads and O-rings with the appropriate A/C oil. See Fluids and Capacities for A/C oil specifications. Then hand-start the shut off valve into the supermanifold.
  2. Fully torque the liquid cooled condenser shut off valve on the supermanifold.
    19 Nm (14.0 lbs-ft)

    Use only hand tools to install the shut off valve. Impact or power tools will break the threads.

  3. Position the liquid cooled condenser shut off valve connector assembly on the shut off valve.

    Align the tab on the connector assembly with the recess on the shut off valve.
  4. Install the bolt that attaches the liquid cooled condenser shut off valve coil to the shut off valve.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

  5. Connect the electrical connector on the evap EXV.

    Push the red locking tab towards the connector to engage the locking mechanism. DO NOT push down or pull up on the red locking tab.
  6. Connect the electrical connector on the chiller EXV.

  7. Connect the electrical connector on the left side cabin condenser EXV.

  8. Connect the electrical connector on the right side cabin condenser EXV.

  9. Connect the electrical connector on the high pressure and temperature subcool sensor.

  10. Connect the electrical connector on the liquid cooled condenser shut off valve.

  11. Connect the electrical connector on the liquid cooled condenser EXV.

  12. Connect the electrical connector on the recirc EXV.

  13. Connect the electrical connector on the high pressure and temperature sensor.

  14. Install new seal washers on the supermanifold side of the supermanifold-to-compressor A/C line, and then lubricate the washers with a small amount of the appropriate A/C oil. See Fluids and Capacities for A/C oil specifications.
  15. Position the supermanifold-to-compressor A/C line on the supermanifold, and then hand tighten the bolt that attaches the A/C line to the supermanifold.
  16. Tighten the bolt that attaches the A/C line to the supermanifold.
    22 Nm (16.2 lbs-ft)

  17. Perform the vacuum leak test and oil injection. See Vacuum Leak Test and Oil Injection.
  18. Recharge the A/C refrigerant. See Recharge.

    Recharge the refrigerant exactly as instructed. Failure to adhere to the instructions can cause catastrophic damage to the cooling system.

  19. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  20.
