Brake Pad Kit - Front - Hitachi (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  4. Remove and discard the bolts that attach the LH front brake caliper to the LH front knuckle.
  5. Use a brake caliper S-hook to hang the LH front caliper on the body.
  6. Pull the clips off the caliper rib at the top and bottom of pads.
  7. Clean the LH caliper bracket with a wire brush.
  8. Repeat step 3 through step 7 to remove the RH front brake pads.

Install

  1. Install the LH front brake pads on the LH front brake caliper.
    Tip: Push the pads toward the anti rattle springs, and then slide the pads onto the fixed pins.
  2. Position the LH front brake caliper onto the LH front knuckle, install new bolts that attach the caliper to the knuckle, and then mark the bolt with a paint pen.
    32 Nm (23.6 lbs-ft)
  3. Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  4. Repeat step 1 through step 3 to install the RH front brake pads.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Pump the brake pedal 3-5 times to seat the pads against the brake rotor until the brake pedal feels firm.
  7. Check the brake fluid reservoir and top off as necessary.
  8. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  9. Perform vehicle road test using a series of ABS-active stops and make sure proper brake pedal feel and performance is achieved.
