Crush Can - Front Subframe - LH (Remove and Replace)

Reuse

Remove

  1. Remove the front fascia. See Fascia - Front (Remove and Install)
  2. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH side of the ankle catcher to the front bumper beam.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • 3 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  3. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the front end carrier to the LH front subframe crush can.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • 6 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  4. Remove the bolt that attaches the front end carrier to the LH side of the ankle catcher.
    7 Nm (5.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • 3 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  6. While pulling the front end carrier away from the vehicle, slide the ankle catcher down and away from the vehicle, and then set the ankle catcher aside.
  7. Remove the bolts that attach the LH front subframe crush can to the front subframe.
    53 Nm (39.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
    • 3 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  8. While pulling the front end carrier away from the vehicle, slide the LH front subframe crush can out of the front subframe, and then remove the crush can from the vehicle.

Install

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Initially hand-tighten the bolts (x2) that attach the LH front subframe crush can to the front subframe. Fully torque these bolts only after the ankle catcher and front end carrier have been completely torqued to the vehicle.
