ECU - ABS (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace)

Replace

Remove

  1. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  2. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  3. Remove the 12V auxiliary battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the shock tower brace. SeeBrace - Shock Tower (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the bolt that attaches the steering gear assembly to the intermediate shaft assembly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  6. Slide the electric steering column upward to remove it from the steering gear assembly.
  7. Release the master cylinder brake lines from clip at the rear of hydraulic control unit bracket.

    1x harness clip
  8. Disconnect the hydraulic control unit connector.

    1x connector, Disengage locking tab and pull up on connector to release
  9. Remove the fasteners (x2) securing the hydraulic control unit to the hydraulic control unit bracket.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
    • 10 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  10. Remove the bolts (x2) securing the hydraulic control unit to the frame rail.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • 6 in extension locking
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  11. Release the hydraulic control unit bracket from the hydraulic control unit.

    Note
    Slide trim tool between hydraulic control unit bracket and hydraulic control unit and use for leverage, Position 20 in clip panel tool between trim tool and hydraulic control unit and gently pry to release bracket, Release bracket far enough to access hydraulic control unit ECU bolts.
  12. Remove the upper bolts (x2) securing the hydraulic control unit ECU to the hydraulic control unit.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E5
    • 2 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  13. Remove the lower bolts (x2) securing the hydraulic control unit ECU to the hydraulic control unit.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E5
    • 2 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  14. Remove the hydraulic control unit ECU from the hydraulic control unit.

    Note
    Gently release ECU towards rear of vehicle. Do not use any tools to pry the ECU away from the hydraulic control unit.
  15. Clean the hydraulic control unit surface.

    Note
    Use a lint free cloth to clean any debris from hydraulic control unit, Do not use any chemicals, Do not allow any debris to fall into the connecting hole of pump motor, Do not touch pressure sensor with fingers.

Install

  1. Install the hydraulic control unit ECU into the hydraulic control unit.

    Note
    Align the pump motor on ECU with the connecting hole on the hydraulic control unit.
  2. Install the bolts (x4) securing the hydraulic control unit ECU to the hydraulic control unit and hand tight each bolt in the following order: upper right (1), lower left (2), upper left (3), lower right (4).
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E5
    • 2 in extension
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  3. Install the hydraulic control unit bracket to the hydraulic control unit.

    Note
    Support HCU while installing bracket, Avoid bending or damaging brake lines.
  4. Install the bolts (x2) securing the hydraulic control unit to the frame rail.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • 6 in extension locking
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  5. Install the fasteners (x2) securing the hydraulic control unit to the hydraulic control unit bracket.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
    • 10 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  6. Position the master cylinder brake lines to the clip at the rear of the hydraulic control unit bracket.

  7. Connect the hydraulic control unit connector.

    1x connector, Gently push connector downward, Engage locking tab
  8. Slide the intermediate shaft assembly downward to install it to the steering gear assembly.

    Note
    Ensure the intermediate shaft is aligned and fully seated, Recommend assistance if necessary to align the shaft to the steering gear.
  9. Install the bolt that attaches the steering gear assembly to the intermediate shaft assembly.
    18 Nm (13.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  10. Install the shock tower brace. SeeBrace - Shock Tower (Remove and Replace).
  11. Install the 12V auxiliary battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
  12. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  13. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  14. Perform a software reinstall. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen.
