Frame - Seat Cushion - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace)

Seat base edges are
sharp and can cause personal injury. Wear cut resistant gloves when removing the seat
from the vehicle, and while performing procedures that involve work on or near the seat
base.

Remove
- Remove the driver seat from the vehicle. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the driver seat outboard side shield. See Side Shield - Outboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the driver seat inboard side shield. See Side Shield - Inboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
- Rotate the seat to gain access to the underside of seat.
- Unhook the straps that secure the lower section of the seatback, and move the seatback flap away from the underside of seat.
- Disconnect the driver seat seatback heater electrical connector.
- Release driver seat seatback harness connector from the seat bottom.
- Disconnect the heat pad electrical connector.
- Release the clip that attaches the heat pad connector to the seat bottom, slide the connector forward and remove it from the seat bottom.
- Disconnect the electrical harness from the seat occupied sensor connector.
- Release the clip that attaches the seat occupied sensor to the seat underside, and then separate the sensor from the seat underside.
- Release the clips (x2) that attach the seat cushion foam to the seat suspension.
- If equipped, remove the seat track position sensor. See Sensor - Position - Track - 1st Row Seat - RH (Remove and Replace).
- Disconnect the lift motor connector.
- Disconnect the electrical harness from the seat tilt motor connector.
- Remove the clips (x2) that attach the track motor harness to the track motor housing.
- Disconnect the electrical harness from the seat track motor connector.
- Disconnect the electrical harness from the pre-tensioner connector.
- Remove the clip that attaches the LH front seat harness to the outboard seat track.

Release the clips (x3) that
attach the electrical harness along the seat cushion frame.
NoteOlder harnesses are clipped directly to the seat frame, while newer harnesses are attached to a harness guide that is clipped to the seat rail. See images.
- Remove the clips (x4) that attach the driver seat harness onto the under side of the seat frame.
- Remove the clips (x3) that attach the driver seat harness onto the inboard side of the seat frame.
- Remove the harness from the seat frame.
- Return the seat to an upright position.

Remove and discard the bolts
(x2) that attach the LH side of the driver seat seatback frame to the seat
cushion frame.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- Torx T50 socket
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver

Remove and discard the patch
bolt that attaches the seat belt buckle to the seat cushion frame, and then
remove the buckle.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- Torx T50 socket
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- Release the seat belt buckle harness clip from the seat frame.
- Disconnect the seat belt buckle electrical connector, and then set the seat belt buckle aside.

Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the RH side of the driver
seat seatback frame to the seat cushion frame.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- Torx T50 socket
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- Rotate the seatback assembly and lift it straight up from the cushion frame. Carefully organize the surrounding seat harness.

Turn the seat bottom over
for access.
CAUTIONProtect the seat cushion from damage.

Remove the front retaining
clip that attaches the front of the seat trim to the frame from the seat
cushion frame.
NoteMay need to start with a hook tool. Pull the clip away from the frame to release.

Remove the inboard retaining
clip that attaches the side of the seat trim to the frame from the seat
cushion frame.
NoteMay need to start with a hook tool. Pull the clip away from the frame to release.

Remove the outboard
retaining clip that attaches the side of the seat trim to the frame from the
seat cushion frame.
NoteMay need to start with a hook tool. Pull the clip away from the frame to release.

Remove the cushion pad
assembly from the seat frame assembly.
NoteLift the cushion straight off. Ensure the heating pad and seat occupied sensor harnesses are clear of the seat frame.

Remove and discard the bolt
that attaches the pre-tensioner to the cushion frame.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- Torx T50 socket
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- Remove the cushion suspension from the cushion frame.
Install
- Install the cushion suspension to the cushion frame.

Install a new bolt to attach
the pre-tensioner to the cushion frame.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T50 socket
- 3/8 in std ratchet
- 3/8 in torque wrench (installation only)
- 3 in extension
- Place the cushion pad assembly onto the seat cushion frame for installation. Insert the rear of the seat cushion to the seat bottom frame, and then lower the rest. Ensure the seat harness is routed through the back of the seat frame.

Install the inboard seat
trim retaining clip onto the seat frame.
NoteFold the clip over towards the frame. The open end should engage the seat frame. If not, the trim will need to be pulled until the correct amount of tension is achieved. Line up one end of the clip strip opening with the seat frame and press down until the clip is fully seated onto the frame.

Install the front seat trim
retaining clip onto the seat frame.

Install the outboard seat
trim retaining clip onto the seat frame.
NoteFold the clip over towards the frame. The open end should engage the seat frame. If not, the trim will need to be pulled until the correct amount of tension is achieved. Line up one end of the clip strip opening with the seat frame and press down until the clip is fully seated onto the frame.
- Return the seat to upright position.

Place the seatback frame
onto the cushion frame for installation.
NoteThe seatback frame can rest on the cushion frame without fasteners.

Install new bolts (x4) to attach the LH and RH sides of the driver seat
seatback frame to the seat cushion frame.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- Torx T50 socket
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver

Install a new patch bolt to attach the seat belt buckle to the seat cushion
frame.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- Torx T50 socket
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- Connect the seat belt buckle connector.
- Install the seat belt buckle harness clip.

Rotate the seat to gain
access to the underside of the seat.
NoteProtect seat cushion from damage.

Position the driver seat
harness to the seat frame for installation.
NoteMake sure the harness is routed properly. The main branch of the harness should line up with the center cut out for the center clip. Route the inboard and outboard legs of the harness between the track and the frame. Both inboard and outboard legs should wrap around the front of the frame.
- Install the clips (x4) that attach the driver seat harness to the seat cushion frame.
- Install the clips (x3) that attach the driver seat harness to the inboard side of the seat cushion frame.
- Install the clips (x3) that attach the driver seat harness to the outboard side of the seat cushion frame.
- Install the clip that attaches the LH front seat harness to the outboard seat track.

Connect the driver
pre-tensioner connector.
NoteThe pre-tensioner is a two-stage connector. Ensure the lock is engaged after the connector is fully seated.
- Connect the electrical harness from the seat track motor connector.
- Install the clips (x2) that attach the track motor harness to the track motor housing.
- Connect the tilt motor connector.
- Connect the lift motor connector.
- If equipped, install the seat track position sensor. See Sensor - Position - Track - 1st Row Seat - RH (Remove and Replace).
- Slide the heat pad connector onto the seat frame clip to secure it.
- Connect the heat pad connector.
- Install the seat occupied sensor onto the seat frame.
- Connect the seat occupied sensor connector.
- Install the seatback harness connector to the seat bottom.
- Connect the seat heater harness.

Install the seat cushion
retaining clips (x2) onto the seat suspension.
NoteIf necessary, pull the seat cushion and trim tight for correct placement on the seat suspension.

Hook the straps that attach the lower section of the seatback to the seat
suspension.
NoteEnsure the straps are tight for proper fit and installation.
- Rotate the seatback to the upright position.
- Install the driver seat inboard side shield. See Side Shield - Inboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
- Install the driver seat outboard side shield. See Side Shield - Outboard - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace).
- Install the driver seat into the vehicle. See Seat Assembly - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Replace).

Replacement front seat assemblies and
seat cushion frame assemblies procured after June 2024 are equipped with a
newly-designed Tesla "mini-tilt" motor, and replacing these parts (or the tilt motor
itself) might require a configuration change. Review the configuration information in
the table and perform the following substeps if a configuration update is
needed.
- Access the Vehicle Configuration section of the Infotainment Dashboard. See Gateway Configuration (Display and Change).
- Update cfg_frontSeattype according to the combination of tilt motors described in the table.
