Assembly - Trailer Hitch (Remove and Replace)

Reuse

Remove

  1. Remove the rear fascia. See Fascia - Rear (Remove and Install).
  2. Disconnect the trailer hitch assembly electrical connector.
  3. Remove the LH nuts (x3) and RH nuts (x3) that attach the trailer hitch assembly to the studs on the body of the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm, 6-point deep socket
    • 6 in extension
  4. Remove the trailer hitch assembly from the vehicle.
    Tip: Recommend assistance when performing this step.

Install

  1. Maneuver the trailer hitch assembly in place so that the holes are placed over the studs on the body of the vehicle.
    Tip: Recommend assistance when performing this step.
  2. Install the LH nuts (x3) and RH nuts (x3) that attach the trailer hitch assembly to the studs on the body of the vehicle.
    62.5 Nm (46.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm, 6-point deep socket
    • 6 in extension
  3. For EU trailer sockets only: drill a 6 mm drain hole at the lowest point of the trailer socket, at the hinge side of the socket.

    CAUTION
    To prevent damage to the wires and pins inside the socket, carefully drill only through the plastic housing.

    This drill hole is required to prevent corrosion in the event of water ingress.
  4. Connect the trailer hitch assembly electrical connector.
  5. Install the rear fascia. See Fascia - Rear (Remove and Install).
