Module - Restraint Control (Structural Pack) (Remove and Install)

Make sure 12V/LV power has been disconnected for at least 1 minute before disconnecting the electrical harness from Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) components, such as Restraint Control Module, sensors, airbags, etc. Disconnect the 12V/LV battery and the First Responder Loop. Failure to do so can result in unintended safety system behaviors. For more information on SRS precautions, see Airbag and Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) Precautions.

Warning
While performing any Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) related repairs, it is important to disconnect 12V/LV power, by disconnecting the 12V/LV battery and the First Responder Loop. If the vehicle’s 12V/LV power is NOT disconnected and the Restraint Control Module is removed or disturbed, this can result in the deployment of the vehicle’s airbags.

Remove

  1. Open the front doors and lower the front windows.
  2. Move the front passenger seat rearward.
  3. Remove the RH center console side panel. See Side Panel - Center Console - LH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the HEPA filter assembly to the vehicle, and then remove the assembly from the vehicle.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Pivot the rear edge of the assembly upward to clear the brake reservoir, and then lift the assembly upward to clear the underhood storage unit.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10mm socket
  6. Enable Service Mode Plus. See Service Mode Plus
  7. On the touchscreen, touch Service Mode > Safety & Restraints > Airbags > RCM > Disarm RCM, touch Run, and allow the routine to complete.

    Note
    Make sure that airbags are disarmed after the routine has completed.

  8. Disconnect LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  9. Disconnect the restraint control module connectors (x2).
  10. Remove and discard the nuts (x3) that attach the restraint control module to the vehicle.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

  11. Lift the restraint control module off the alignment studs, and then slide the module out from under the riser to remove it from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the restraint control module under the riser, and then align the module onto the alignment studs.

  2. Install new nuts (x3) that attach the restraint control module to the vehicle.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    • 10mm socket
  3. Connect the restraint control module connectors (x2).
  4. Install the RH center console side panel. See Side Panel - Center Console - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Connect LV power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  6. Position the HEPA filter assembly into the vehicle, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the assembly to the vehicle.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Pivot the front edge down past the frunk assembly, and then carefully move the rear edge past the brake reservoir and into position.

  7. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  8. Enable Service Mode Plus. See Service Mode Plus
  9. On the touchscreen, touch Service Mode > Safety & Restraints > Airbags > RCM > Re-arm RCM, touch Run, and allow the routine to complete.

  10. Exit Service Mode Plus. See Service Mode Plus
