Sensor - Parking Distance - Outer - Front (Remove and Replace)

Note
Outer parking distance sensors are S1, S2, S5, and S6. Inner parking distance sensors are S3 and S4. See Sensor - Parking Distance - Inner - Front (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Remove the front wheel that is closest to the front outer parking sensor that is being serviced. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  2. Raise the vehicle to a comfortable working height.
  3. Remove the front fender garnish that is closest to the parking sensor that is being serviced. See Garnish - Fender - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Release the clips (x8) that attach the front of the front wheel arch liner to the vehicle, carefully pull the liner away from the front fascia, and then set it aside.
  5. Disconnect the electrical harness from the parking sensor.

    CAUTION
    If the connector has a red-colored locking tab, DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling to release the connector.
  6. Release the tabs (x2) that attach the front parking distance sensor to the front fascia, and then remove the sensor from the fascia.

Install

  1. Install the front parking distance sensor to the front fascia.
  2. Connect the electrical harness to the parking sensor.
  3. Install the clips (x8) that attach the front of the front wheel arch liner to the vehicle.
  4. Install the front fender garnish that is closest to the parking sensor that is being serviced. See Garnish - Fender - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Install the front wheel that is closest to the front outer parking sensor that is being serviced. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  6. Consult the parts catalog to determine the type of parking sensor installed on the vehicle. If the vehicle is equipped with Tesla USS, run the following Toolbox 3.0 routines in the order listed:

    2. PROC_USM_FRONT_PROGRAM-USS-ADDRESSESvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Driver Assist ➜ Sensors ➜ Program Front USS
  7. Remove the laptop from the vehicle.
