Reuse

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and fully lower the LH front window.
  2. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  3. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  4. Remove the bolts that attach the top of the front fascia to the vehicle.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std ratchet
    • 2 in extension
    • Wurth ¼ in hexagon 1 Nm - 5 Nm torque wrench (installation only)
      • ¼ in hex to ¼ in square 2 in adapter
  5. Release the connector lock, and then disconnect the active grille shutter electrical connector.

    CAUTION
    Do not push down on the red tab. Pull the red tab to release the connector lock.
  6. Remove the ambient temperature sensor cover from the active griller shutter, and then disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
  7. Remove the bolts that attach the underhood storage unit reinforcement bracket to the cooling fan, and then slide the bracket rearward for clearance.
    48 Nm (35.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • E14 socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
  8. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove the LH front fender garnish. See Garnish - Fender - Front - LH (Remove and Replace)
  10. Release the clips (x4) that attach the front portion of the LH front wheel arch liners to the vehicle, and then move the wheel arch liner aside to perform the following steps.
  11. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH corner of the front fascia to the fender.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std ratchet
    • Wurth ¼ in hexagon 1 Nm - 5 Nm torque wrench (installation only)
      • ¼ in hex to ¼ in square 2 in adapter
  12. Repeat step 9 through step 11 for the RH side of the vehicle.
  13. Partially release the RH side of the front fascia.
  14. Release the connector lock, and then disconnect the electrical connector from the front fascia in the RH wheel well.
  15. Release the clip that attaches the electrical harness to the pedestrian warning speaker assembly.
  16. Slide the locking tab away from the pedestrian warning harness connector, and then press down on the locking tab to disconnect the connector from the pedestrian warning speaker assembly.
  17. Release the LH side of the front fascia from the vehicle, and then remove the fascia from the vehicle. Place the fascia on a padded surface.

    CAUTION
    Carefully release the tabs that attach the lower headlight bracket to the front fascia, otherwise the tabs can be broken.

    The corners of the ankle catcher are very sharp and might cause personal injury.

  18. Place coolant drain container underneath the LH front side of the vehicle.
  19. Release the clip that attaches the radiator inlet hose to the cooling fan module, disconnect the hose, allow the coolant to drain, and then plug the male and female fittings.
  20. Place coolant drain container underneath the RH front side of the vehicle.
  21. Release the clip that attaches the radiator outlet hose from the cooling fan module, disconnect the hose, allow the coolant to drain, and then plug the male and female fittings.
  22. Disconnect the electrical harness from the cooling fan module connector.
  23. Remove the bolts that attach the lower LH and RH of the cooling fan module to the ankle catcher.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

    With assistance, lift up on the cooling fan module to ease the removal of the bolts.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench

  24. Remove the cooling fan module assembly from the vehicle.
  25. Release the connector lock, and then disconnect the LH and RH front end carrier harness connectors.

  26. Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height.
  27. Remove the bolt that attaches the front bumper beam to the RH side of the ankle catcher.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
  28. Remove the bolts that attach the front end carrier to the RH subframe crash cans.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 6 in extension
  29. Remove the bolt that attaches the front end carrier to the RH side of the ankle catcher.
    7 Nm (5.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
  30. Repeat step 27 through step 29 for the LH side of the vehicle
  31. Slightly pull the front end carrier away from the ankle catcher, and then rotate the rear of the ankle catcher downward and toward the front of the vehicle to remove it.
  32. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connectors from the LH and RH front airbag sensors.

  33. Remove and discard the bolts that attach the front bumper with the energy absorbers to the LH and RH crush cans.
    75 Nm (55.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
  34. Carefully remove the front bumper with the energy absorbers from the vehicle.

    Do not damage the body when prying the front bumper.

    Note
    Lightly tap the front bumper with a dead blow harmer to assist with removal of the front bumper.
  35. Remove the LH bolt on top of the front end carrier. Repeat this step for the RH side.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 6 in extension
  36. Remove the front end carrier assembly from the vehicle.
  37. Disconnect the connector from the hood latch assembly.
  38. Disconnect the connector from the hood latch actuator.
  39. With a paint pen, mark the bolts that attach the hood latch assembly to the front end carrier, and then remove the bolts.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension
  40. Remove the bolts that attach the hood latch actuator to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension
  41. Remove the bolts and release the tabs that attach the upper leg support to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
  42. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the radar sensor.
  43. Release the holding tab that attaches the radar sensor to the front radar sensor bracket, and then remove the sensor from the bracket.
  44. Remove the bolts that attach the front radar bracket to the front end carrier, and then remove the radar bracket from the assembly.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 6 in extension locking
  45. Release the clips that attach the electrical harness to the front end carrier, and then remove the electrical harness from the front end carrier.
  46. Remove the bolts that attach LH and RH lower grille FEM brackets to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm hex
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 6 in extension

Install

  1. Install the bolts that attach LH and RH lower grille FEM brackets to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm hex
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 6 in extension
  2. Install the clips that attach the electrical harness to the front end carrier.
  3. Position the front radar bracket onto the front end carrier, and then install the bolts that attach the bracket to the front end carrier.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
  4. Install the front radar into the radar bracket.
  5. Connect the electrical harness connector to the radar sensor.
  6. Install the bolts and tabs that attach the upper leg support to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension

  7. Position the hood latch actuator onto the front end carrier, and then install the bolts that attach the actuator to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 4 in extension
  8. Position the hood latch assembly onto the front end carrier, and then install the bolts that attach the hood latch assembly to the front end carrier.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Align the bolts paint marks to keep the hood alignment.

  9. Connect the connector to the hood latch actuator.
  10. Connect the connector to the hood latch assembly.
  11. Position the front end carrier assembly onto the vehicle.
  12. Install the LH bolt on top of the front end carrier. Repeat this step for the RH side.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 6 in extension
  13. Carefully install the front bumper with the energy absorbers to the vehicle.

  14. Install the new bolts that attach the front bumper with the energy absorbers to the LH and RH crush cans.
    75 Nm (55.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
  15. Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors to the LH and RH front airbag sensors.

  16. Slightly pull the front end carrier away from the ankle catcher, and then position the ankle catch on the vehicle.
  17. Install the bolt that attaches the front bumper beam to the LH side of the ankle catcher. Repeat this step for the RH side.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
  18. Install the bolt that attaches the front end carrier to the LH side of the ankle catcher.
    7 Nm (5.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
  19. Install the bolts that attach the front end carrier to the LH subframe crash cans.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 6 in extension
  20. Repeat steps 18 and 19 for the RH side of the vehicle.
  21. Fully raise the vehicle.
  22. Connect the LH front end carrier harness connector, and then engage the connector lock. Repeat this step for the RH front end carrier harness connector.

  23. With assistance, position the cooling fan module assembly into the vehicle, and then loosely install the bolts that attach the module assembly to the vehicle.
  24. Torque the bolts that attach the LH and RH of the cooling fan module to the vehicle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  25. Remove the plugs from the radiator outlet hose, connect the male and female fittings, and then fasten the hose clip.

  26. Remove the plugs from the radiator inlet hose, connect the male and female fittings, and then fasten the hose clip.

  27. Connect the electrical harness from the cooling fan module connector, and then engage the connector lock.
  28. Lower the vehicle.
  29. With assistance, install the front fascia onto the vehicle and ssecure the LH side of the front fascia onto the fascia brackets.

  30. Connect the pedestrian warning harness connector, and then engage the connector lock.
  31. Install the clip that attaches the electrical harness to the pedestrian warning speaker assembly.
  32. Connect the electrical connector to the front fascia in the RH wheel well, and then engage the connector lock.
  33. Install the RH side of the front fascia.
  34. Install the bolt that attaches the RH corner of the front fascia to the fender.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std ratchet
    • Wurth ¼ in hexagon 1 Nm - 5 Nm torque wrench (installation only)
      • ¼ in hex to ¼ in square 2 in adapter
  35. Install the clips (x4) that attach the front portion of the RH front wheel arch liners to the vehicle.

  36. Install the RH front fender garnish. See Garnish - Fender - Front - LH (Remove and Replace)
  37. Repeat step 34 through step 36 for the LH side of the vehicle.
  38. Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace).
  39. Install the bolts that attach the top of the front fascia to the vehicle.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std ratchet
    • 2 in extension
    • Wurth ¼ in hexagon 1 Nm - 5 Nm torque wrench (installation only)
      • ¼ in hex to ¼ in square 2 in adapter
  40. Position the underhood storage unit reinforcement bracket onto the cooling fan, and then install the bolts that attach the bracket to the fan.
    48 Nm (35.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • E14 socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 3 in extension
  41. Connect the ambient temperature sensor electrical connector, and then install the sensor cover onto the active griller shutter.
  42. Connect the active grille shutter electrical connector, and then engage the connector lock.
  43. Remove the coolant bottle cap, and then fill the coolant to the "Max" line.
  44. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  45. Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes): TEST_VCFRONT_X_THERMAL-COOLANT-AIR-PURGEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode:
    • Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Coolant Purge Stop or Coolant Purge Start

  49. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
  50. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  51. Close the LH front door and raise the LH front window.
  52. Perform the front radar sensor calibration procedure. See Sensor - Radar - Front (Calibration).
