Replace

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and fully lower the LH front window.
  2. Move the driver seat fully rearward.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  4. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the HEPA filter assembly. See Assembly - Filter - HEPA (Remove and Install).
  6. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  7. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the brake fluid reservoir electrical connector.

    CAUTION
    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling to release the connector.
  8. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the harness connectors from the brake booster assembly.

  9. Place an absorbent material beneath the brake booster and reservoir area.
  10. Using a brake fluid syringe, remove the brake fluid from the reservoir.
  11. Disconnect the forward brake line from the master cylinder.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm 12pt combination wrench
    • 12 mm flare nut crowfoot socket
  12. Disconnect the rear brake line from the master cylinder.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm 12pt combination wrench
    • 12 mm flare nut crowfoot socket
  13. Remove the driver knee airbag. See Airbag - Knee - Driver (Remove and Install).
  14. Remove the LH footwell air duct. See Duct - Footwell - LH (Remove and Replace).
  15. Disconnect the brake switch electrical connector.
  16. Remove the brake switch from the pedal assembly.

    Note
    Rotate the switch 45 degrees to remove it from the assembly.

    CAUTION
    Replace if damaged during removal.
  17. Remove the cotter clip from the clevis pin on the brake pedal assembly.
  18. Remove the clevis pin from the brake pedal assembly.
  19. Remove and discard the nuts that attach the brake booster to the bulkhead, and then remove the brake booster assembly from the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • 6 in extension

Install

  1. Position the brake booster assembly into the vehicle.
  2. Install new nuts that attach the brake booster to the bulkhead.
    16.5 Nm (12.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
    • 6 in extension
  3. Align the brake pedal to the iBooster rod, and then install the clevis pin to the brake pedal assembly.
  4. Install the cotter clip to the clevis pin on the brake pedal assembly.
  5. Connect the brake switch electrical connector.
  6. Install the LH footwell air duct. See Duct - Footwell - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Install the driver knee airbag. See Airbag - Knee - Driver (Remove and Install).
  8. Connect the rear brake line to the master cylinder.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm 12pt combination wrench
    • 12 mm flare nut crowfoot socket
  9. Connect the forward brake line to the master cylinder.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm 12pt combination wrench
    • 12 mm flare nut crowfoot socket
  10. Clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir, and then remove the cap.
  11. Fill the brake fluid reservoir to the "MAX" level.

    CAUTION
    Make sure not to get any brake fluid on any painted surface. Clean residual brake fluid with a shop towel.
  12. Remove the absorbent material from beneath the brake booster and reservoir area.
  13. Connect the harness connectors to the brake booster assembly, and then engage the locking tabs.

    CAUTION
    Push the red locking tab towards the connector to engage the locking mechanism. DO NOT push down or pull up on the red locking tab.
  14. Connect the brake fluid reservoir electrical connector, and then engage the locking tabs.

  15. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  16. Redeploy firmware. See Software Reinstall - Toolbox.
  17. Bleed the brakes. See Brake Fluid Bleed/Flush.
  18. Install the HEPA filter assembly. See Assembly - Filter - HEPA (Remove and Install).
  19. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  20. Disable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  21. Move the LH front seat to original position.
  22. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
  23. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
  24. Perform a test drive.
