  • Glass Cleaner:
    • 1083742-02-A - Zep glass cleaner
    • 2249444-00-A - Zeiss Pre-moistened Clean Wipes
    • MXE0000458 - Tramado Wipes
  • Lint free Microfiber towels:
    • 2084223-00-A - 6 pack
    • 2084180-00-A - 120 pack
    • If the above part numbers are not available in your region, use other New, Lint Free microfiber towels.
  • LED flashlight:
    • 1523885-00-A - LIGHT, PEN STYLE, RECHARGEABLE
  • Non-Marring Plastic Trim Tool:

CAUTION

Procedure

  1. Gently lift the wiper arms away from the windshield to access the wiper blades, and then clean the wiper blades (x2) with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, especially the edge of the wiper blades.

    CAUTION
    If wiper blades show degradation and need to be replaced, recommend customers to replace the wiper blades to prevent reduced camera visibility performance.

    Do not lift a wiper arm beyond its intended position.

    Note
    Remind customers to periodically clean the edge of the wiper blades as instructed in the Owner's Manual.
  2. Apply glass cleaner onto a microfiber towel to clean the outside surface of the front windshield, then use a second dry microfiber towel to wipe the windshield in a circular motion until the windshield is basically dry. Verify the windshield has no stains or residue, then allow 1 minute to fully dry.
  3. Use an LED flashlight to illuminate the outside surface of the windshield in the forward facing camera area, inspect for presence of any haze, fogginess, stains and/or residue on the inside of the windshield. Shine the flashlight towards you as shown in the images.

    If the presence of haze, smudges is confirmed with flashlight based inspection method, continue to the next step.

  4. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  5. Clean the inside surface of the windshield in the forward facing camera area as follows:
    1. Put on nitrile gloves.
    2. Use Zeiss lens wipes to thoroughly wipe the area. Use a plastic trim tool to help apply upward pressure and clean the crevices between the forward facing camera and windshield. See images for reference.

      CAUTION
      Be careful not to touch or damage the forward facing camera lens while using the trim tool.
    3. Use Tramado wipes to thoroughly wipe the area. Make sure the wipe is laid flat onto the surface to prevent glass from streaking. Use a plastic trim tool to help apply upward pressure and clean the crevices between the forward facing camera and windshield. See images for reference.

      CAUTION
      Be careful not to touch or damage the forward facing camera lens while using the trim tool.
    4. Use the LED flashlight to inspect that the area is clean and no streaks or residue remains. Use additional Tramado wipes to wipe the area, if necessary.
    5. Use a clean Tramado wipe folded into a square for a final wipe. Wiping in a sweeping motion will help to remove remaining dust on glass.

    Clean the entire area thoroughly, including the edges and corners.

    For HW4 vehicles, pay special attention to ensure the notch is also clean (see picture for notch location).

  6. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Driver Assist > Cameras > Camera Preview, select Main/Wide/Narrow tabs to preview all forward facing cameras and assess the visual clarity.
    • If no residue or dirt is visible across all camera lenses, continue to the next step to install all components that were removed for access.
    • If the image is blurry or the visuals are impeded, clean the camera lenses as needed.
  7. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  8. Unlock the vehicle Gateway.
  9. If any camera FOV residue alert presents, clear the alert.
    1. On the touchscreen, tap Service Mode Plus > Driver Assist > Cameras > Main Pitch > Windshield clean complete, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
    2. Tap Reset DAS to reset the driver assistance system. Close the routine once it is successfully completed.
  10. If no camera FOV residue alert presents, tap Service Mode Plus > Driver Assist > Cameras > Main Pitch > Record windshield cleaning procedure completion to record the cleaning completion.

  11. Exit Service Mode.
  12. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
