Brake Caliper - Rear - Pair (Remove and Replace)

Note
This procedure is applicable to both base and sport type brake calipers.
  1. Prepare the vehicle for lifting, but do not lift it at this time. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the window.
  3. Enable Service Model via the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
  4. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  5. Put the EPB in Service Mode: on the touchscreen, touch Chassis > Brakes > EPB Service Mode, from the drop down menus, select Both and Start, and then touch Run.

    CAUTION
    The vehicle may roll freely.
  6. Remove LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  7. Disconnect the LH rear brake caliper connector.
  8. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake caliper harness bracket.
  9. Position an oil drain container under LH rear brake hose area.
  10. Remove the tube nut that attaches the LH rear brake line to the LH rear brake hose.
  11. Remove and discard the LH rear jounce hose clip.
  12. Position the oil drain container under the LH rear brake caliper area.
  13. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake hose to the LH rear brake caliper.
  14. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper bracket to the knuckle, and then remove the brake caliper from the vehicle.
  15. Install new bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper bracket onto the knuckle (torque 83 Nm).

    Note
    Mark the bolts with a paint pen after torquing.
  16. Install a new bolt and new copper washers (x2) that attach the LH rear brake hose to the LH rear brake caliper (torque 42 Nm).

    Mark the bolt with a paint pen after torquing.
  17. Install a new LH rear jounce hose clip to attach the hose to the body.
  18. Position the oil drain container under the LH rear brake hose area.
  19. Install the LH rear brake line tube nut to the LH rear brake hose (torque 16 Nm).
  20. Install the nut that attaches the LH rear brake caliper harness bracket (torque 5 Nm).
  21. Connect the LH rear brake caliper connector.
  22. Repeat steps 7 through 21 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  23. Bleed the LH and RH brake calipers. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper.
  24. Put the vehicle into park.

    Note
    Make sure that parking brakes are engaged. Putting the vehicle into Park also disables EPB Service Mode.
  25. Perform a road test and burnish the brakes. See Brake Pads - Burnishing.
