Brake Caliper - Rear - Pair (Remove and Replace)

CAUTION
Brake fluid dissolves paint. Have clean towels and plenty of water standing by to wash spilled brake fluid off painted surfaces.
Note
Dispose of used brake fluid in a manner consistent with local environmental codes.
Note
This procedure is applicable
to both base and sport type brake calipers.
- Prepare the vehicle for lifting, but do not lift it at this time. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Open the LH front door and lower the window.
- Enable Service Model via the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
- Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).

Put the EPB in Service Mode: on the
touchscreen, touch Both and Start, and then touch
Run.
, from the drop down menus, select CAUTIONThe vehicle may roll freely.
- Remove LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).

Disconnect the LH rear brake caliper
connector.

Remove the bolt that attaches the LH
rear brake caliper harness bracket.
- Position an oil drain container under LH rear brake hose area.
-
Remove the tube nut that attaches the LH
rear brake line to the LH rear brake hose.

Remove and discard the LH rear jounce
hose clip.
- Position the oil drain container under the LH rear brake caliper area.

Remove the bolt that attaches the LH
rear brake hose to the LH rear brake caliper.

Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that
attach the LH rear brake caliper bracket to the knuckle, and then remove the brake caliper
from the vehicle.

Install new bolts (x2) that attach the
LH rear brake caliper bracket onto the knuckle (torque 83 Nm).
NoteMark the bolts with a paint pen after torquing.

Install a new bolt and new copper
washers (x2) that attach the LH rear brake hose to the LH rear brake caliper (torque 42
Nm).
NoteMark the bolt with a paint pen after torquing.

Install a new LH rear jounce hose clip
to attach the hose to the body.
- Position the oil drain container under the LH rear brake hose area.

Install the LH rear brake line tube nut
to the LH rear brake hose (torque 16 Nm).

Install the nut that attaches the LH
rear brake caliper harness bracket (torque 5 Nm).

Connect the LH rear brake caliper
connector.
- Repeat steps 7 through 21 on the RH side of the vehicle.
- Bleed the LH and RH brake calipers. See Brake Fluid Bleed - One Caliper.

Put the vehicle into park.
NoteMake sure that parking brakes are engaged. Putting the vehicle into Park also disables EPB Service Mode.

Perform a road test and burnish the
brakes. See Brake Pads - Burnishing.
NoteEnsure proper brake pedal feel and performance. Add correction code 33013000 as a separate activity to the SV.
