Drive Unit - Rear (4DU) (Update ETD)

Update the Engine Type Designation (ETD)

  1. Apply masking tape to the serial number of the rear drive unit.

    Note
    Use a triple layer of masking tape, covering all symbols of the serial number.
  2. Remove the ETD from the rear drive unit.

    Install flap wheel disc 80 on a grinder under sufficient extension to avoid touching the RDU rib. Gently grind off the ETD. Take care not to damage the serial number.
  3. Remove the masking tape from the serial number of the rear drive unit.
  4. Clean the oil drain area on the rear drive unit.

    Note
    Use a scotch brite pad to clean the area if any corrosion is present. Clean firmly with IPA afterwards. Allow 1 minute dry time.
  5. Install the 4D1 ETD sticker on the oil drain area of the rear drive unit.

    Make sure that the affected area is above 10 °C. Heat up the area with a heat gun if necessary. Wet-out the ETD sticker using a roller.
