Headliner - Rear (Remove and Replace)

Remove
- Open all doors and fully lower all windows.
- Open the liftgate.
- Remove the LH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the driver sun visor. See Sun Visor - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Move the driver seat fully forward.
- Repeat step 3through step 7 for the RH side of the vehicle.
- Remove the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH lower C-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Push to open the LH rear coat hook.
- Pry open the LH rear coat hook screw cover with a small flat head screwdriver.

Remove the screw that
attaches the LH rear coat hook to the body.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T20 socket
- Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 Nm - 2.0 Nm screwdriver (installation only)
- 2 in extension
- Release the clips (x4) that attach the LH upper B-pillar to the vehicle, and then move the assembly aside.
- Remove the LH upper C-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Repeat step 10 through 15 for the RH side of the vehicle.

With assistance, release the
clips (x11) that attach the headliner to the vehicle.
NoteThe headliner will be partially supported by the safety tethers (x2) at the B-pillars and tether clips (x2) at the rear corners.

Release the LH and RH rear
map light electrical harness from the rear portion of the headliner, and
then disconnect the electrical connectors.

Remove the screws that
attach the LH and RH safety straps to the headliner.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T30 socket
- Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 Nm - 2.0 Nm screwdriver (installation only)

Remove the bolts (x10) that
attach the front headliner to the rear headliner.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T20 bit
- Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 Nm - 2.0 Nm screwdriver (installation only)

Remove the screws that
attach the LH and RH rear headliner tethers to the roof clips.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T20 bit
- Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 Nm - 2.0 Nm screwdriver (installation only)
- Wiha ¼ in bit holder adapter

With assistance, remove the
rear headliner from the vehicle
NoteRemove the rear headliner through the rear door and place on a clean surface.

Remove the LH and RH coat hook tether clips from the body.
Install
-
With assistance, maneuver
the rear headliner into the vehicle.
Tip: The headliner shipping bag might be useful as a "third hand" for installation.
- Lay the shipping bag flat with the opening toward you.
- Use scissors to cut both the top and bottom sides of the bag up the middle, until there is about 12 in (30 cm) left. The bag will look like a pair of pants.
- Open the vehicle front/rear (as appropriate) doors, set the bag on the vehicle roof, and then bring the "legs" of the bag through each doorway into the cabin.
- Tie the very ends of the legs together to make a very loose loop out of the cabin, over the roof, and back into the cabin. If the loop is too tight, cut a little more up the middle.
- Use the loop to support the headliner during installation. If the loop is too loose, tie an additional knot to reduce slack.
- Fasten the tether clips that attach the rear headliner to the vehicle.

Position the LH rear
headliner tether to the roof clip, and then install the bolt that attaches
the tether to the roof clip. Repeat this step for the RH side of the
vehicle.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T20 bit
- Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 Nm - 2.0 Nm screwdriver (installation only)
- Wiha ¼ in bit holder adapter

Install the bolts (x10) that
attach the front headliner to the rear headliner.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T20 bit
- Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 Nm - 2.0 Nm screwdriver (installation only)

Position the LH safety strap
onto the headliner, and then install the bolt that attaches the strap to the
headliner. Repeat this step for the RH safety strap.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Torx T30 socket
- Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 Nm - 2.0 Nm screwdriver (installation only)

Secure the LH and RH rear
map light electrical harness to the rear portion of the headliner, and then
connect the electrical connectors.

Install the clip that attaches the headliner tether to the LH coat hook
assembly. Repeat this step for the RH coat hook assembly.

With assistance, install the
clips (x11) that attach the headliner to the vehicle.
NoteReseat the primary seal at the doors and the liftgate to the headliner.
- Install the LH and RH upper C-pillar trims. See Trim - C-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).

Install the clips (x4) that
attach the LH upper B-pillar to the vehicle.
NoteLower the seat belt slider to align it with the B-pillar, and then insert the top portion of the upper B-pillar under the headliner to align the clips. Press the bottom to fully seat the upper B-pillar to the lower B-pillar.NoteMake sure the seal correctly overlaps the trim.
- Install the LH lower C-pillar trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Repeat steps 10 and 11 for the RH side of the vehicle.
- Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
- Close the liftgate.
- Move the passenger seat to its original position.
- Install the passenger sun visor. See Sun Visor - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the RH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the RH middle A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Middle - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the RH instrument panel end cap. See End Cap - Instrument Panel - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Repeat step 15 through step 19 for the LH side of the vehicle.
- Close all doors and fully raise all windows.
