Module - Body Controller - Front (Remove and Replace)

Reuse

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  4. Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  5. Remove the 12V auxiliary battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the bolt that attaches the HVAC plenum outer duct to the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std flex head ratchet
    • ¼ in flex head torque wrench (installation only)
  7. Carefully pry the clips (x2) and pin that attach the HVAC plenum outer duct to the vehicle, and then remove then it from the vehicle.
  8. Release the clip that attaches the 12V positive cable to the front body controller module.
  9. Release the connector lock, and then disconnect the thermal sub-harness from the front body controller module.
  10. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the front body controller module shield assembly to the vehicle, and then remove it from the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std flex head ratchet
    • ¼ in flex head torque wrench (installation only)
    • 4 in extension
  11. Disconnect the remaining connectors (x5) from the front of the front body controller module.

    Note
    If present, release the connector locks before disconnecting the connector.
  12. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the harness guide to the front body controller module.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8mm 12pt Combination Wrench
    • 8 mm socket
    • ¼ in std ratchet
    • ¼ in torque wrench (installation only)
    • 2 in extension
  13. Pivot the harness guide slightly forward and up to release the temp set clip from the front body controller module.
  14. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the front body controller module to the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std ratchet
    • ¼ in torque wrench (installation only)
    • 10 in extension
  15. Remove the bolt that attaches the front body controller module ground strap to the body.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std flex head ratchet
    • ¼ in torque wrench (installation only)
  16. Remove the front body controller module from the vehicle.
    Tip: Push the harness connectors down to provide space, and then gently pry the bottom of the controller out of the BIW temp set holes. Swing the controller forward and up to release from the top temp set.
  17. Remove the bolt that attaches the ground strap to the front body controller module, and then remove the ground strap from the module.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
    • ¼ in std flex head ratchet
    • ¼ in torque wrench (installation only)

Install

  1. Install the ground strap to the front body controller module.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
    • ¼ in std flex head ratchet
    • ¼ in torque wrench (installation only)
  2. Maneuver the front body controller module into position, and then install the bolts (x3) that attach the controller to the vehicle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Slide the module over the temp set hook, and then position into bottom bracket temp set holes.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std ratchet
    • ¼ in torque wrench (installation only)
    • 10 in extension
  3. Install the bolt that attaches the ground strap to the vehicle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std flex head ratchet
    • ¼ in torque wrench (installation only)
  4. Position the harness guide to the vehicle, and then install the bolts that attach the harness guide to the front body controller module.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Pivot the harness guide upward and back to install the temp set clip to the front harness.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8mm 12pt Combination Wrench
    • 8 mm socket
    • ¼ in std ratchet
    • ¼ in torque wrench (installation only)
    • 2 in extension
  5. Connect the electrical harness connectors (x5) to the front body controller module.

    Note
    If present, engage the connector lock after connecting the connector.
  6. Position the front body controller module protection shield to the controller, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the shield to the controller.
    8.5 Nm (6.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std flex head ratchet
    • ¼ in flex head torque wrench (installation only)
    • 4 in extension
  7. Connect the thermal sub-harness to the front body controller module, and then engage the connector lock.

    Note
    Ensure the electrical connector is fully seated.
  8. Install the clip that attaches the 12V positive cable to the front body controller module.
  9. Position the HVAC plenum duct onto the vehicle, and then install the bolt and clips.
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • ¼ in std flex head ratchet
    • ¼ in flex head torque wrench (installation only)
  10. Install the 12V auxiliary battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
  11. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  12. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  13. In Toolbox, type VCFRONT REPLACEMENT in the search field, and then select the routine.

    Note
    Make sure "DASHBOARDS" is selected.
  14. Click the play icon next to "Service Redeploy", and then click Run.
  15. Update the vehicle firmware. See Software Update.
  16. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  17. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  18. Make sure the vehicle firmware version is 2021.36 or later before continuing.
  19. In Toolbox, perform the following substeps:
    1. Click Actions/Autodiag, and then search for "Pump".
    2. Click TEST-SELF_VCFRONT_X_COOLANT-PUMPS-IDENTIFICATIONSearch for routine in ToolboxCoolant Pumps IdentificationThermal / Coolant System - Pump IdentificationThermal / Actions - Run Coolant Pumps Identification, and then click Run. Allow the routine to complete before continuing.

    3. Click Actions/Autodiag, and then search for ‘Thermal’.
    4. Click TEST-SELF_VCFRONT_X_HEAT-PUMP-THERMAL-PERFORMANCESearch for routine in ToolboxHeat Pump Thermal System Performance Test, and then click Run. Allow the routine to complete before continuing.

    5. Click Actions/Autodiag, and then search for "Wiper".
    6. Click PROC_WIPER_X_POST-REPLACEMENT-PROCEDURESSearch for routine in ToolboxWiper replacement procedureClosures / Windows - Wiper Module ReplacementLowVoltage / Wiper Post Replacement - Wiper Post Replacement Procedure, and then click Run. Allow the routine to complete.

    7. Remove the laptop from the vehicle.
