Glass - Backlight (Remove and Install)

Open liftgate.
-
Remove liftgate upper trim.
Note15x clips, 2x locating pins, 2x tabs, Use trim tool to remove side clips first, Remove upper clips last.

Remove liftgate lower trim.
Note2x push clips, 12x clips, 6x locating pins, 1x connector, Remove the push cards with asterisks on both sides as shown in the image, and then remove the fixing clips of the decorative panel in sequence. When removing the last clip, hold the decorative panel with one hand to prevent it from suddenly falling and damaging the connector, start by the left lower corner in order to disconnect the harness.

Disconnect LH FM antenna
amplifier.
Note1x connector

Disconnect RH FM antenna
amplifier.
Note1x connector

Disconnect LH ground noise filter
antenna from backlite glass.
Note1x connector, Be cautious not to cause damage to glass.

Disconnect noise filter antenna from RH
side of backlite glass.
Note1x connector

Disconnect the CHMSL connector.
-
Secure double suction cup handles onto
both side of backlite glass.
NoteClean glass under suction cups if needed.
-
Open liftgate.
-
Break datums (X2) on both sides to ease
removal of glass.
-
Break H-clips free from backlite glass
on both sides.
Note2x H-clips, Use a thin hydroblade attachment and lubricate with window cleaner for best results.

Prepare WRD Spider 3 glass removal
kit.
-
Loop cutting string through the wire
starter.
-
Insert tool through roof glass urethane
at rear corner.
NoteTake caution when doing this, Avoid damage to painted surfaces, Use the protective shield.

Pull the nylon string through.
NoteEnsure you pull enough string through to wrap around the perimeter of the glass, Both ends of the wire can stay inside the vehicle interior and does not need to pulled through completely

Attach anchor point to interior of
backlite glass assembly and secure line.

Secure interior side of line to the
spider cutting tool.
NoteFollow instructions on spider tool, Feed line through opening of the cutting tool and tie a knot to secure in place, If spindle is not turned the proper direction the cutting tool will be damaged.

Secure spider cutting tool to interior
side of fixed roof glass assembly.
NoteNote orientation of the cutting line, Make sure line warps over large pully and holds at a 90 degree angle.

Secure angle driver to electric
drill.

Use drill to cut urethane around the
glass.
NoteSuggest using the guard or a trim tool to apply pressure, If the line gets stuck then try to pull it backwards in order release from under datums, You can also try swapping position of the anchor and cutting tool if the line is caught.

Remove backlight assembly from
vehicle.
Note2x suction cup handles, Recommend assistance, Lift up on glass from interior of vehicle to ease removal,Lower the trunk right before latching.

Remove datums and any other debris from
the body.
NoteShop air may be needed to blow out fine debris.
-
Remove remaining urethane from liftgate
body.
NoteEnsure residual urethane is 1mm or less in thickness.

Remove remaining urethane from backlight
assembly.
-
Clean locators double sided tape
residue.
NoteIf needed, an eraser wheel can be used.

Remove all spacer pads (x11).
-
Clean all mating surfaces with IPA
NoteRemove any finger prints or markings that will be visible under the CHMSL.
-
Install locators to backlight
glass.
-
Install spacer pads to backlight
glass.
-
Install backlite glass to liftgate for
dry fit.
NoteRecommend assistance.

Check gap and flush of liftgate
glass.
NoteMake notes of any needed adjustments, Refer to Panel Alignment Specifications for latest specifications.

Remove glass and place upside down on
stand.
-
Apply urethane primer to liftgate body
along the urethane path.
NoteAllow primer to dry for 2 minutes before applying urethane.

Prepare caulking gun and urethane.
NoteOpening must be 8mm wide and 13mm tall.

Apply urethane to backlite glass
following primer path.
NoteFill any gaps and smooth over any peaks in urethane to ensure consistent bead.

Flip over rear backlite glass and
install it onto vehicle.
NoteRecommend assistance.

Check gap and flush of backlite glass
and adjust as needed.
NoteTrim tools and sandbags can be used to adjust fitment, Allow glass 10 minutes of dry time before opening liftgate. Refer to Panel Alignment Specifications for latest specifications.

Remove the double suction cup handles
and any glass fitment equipment.

Connect CHMSL connector (x1).
-
Connect noise filter antenna onto RH
side of backlite glass.

Connect LH antenna filter to liftgate
glass.

Connect RH FM antenna amplifier.
Note1x connector

Connect LH FM antenna amplifier.

Install liftgate lower trim.
Note2x push clips, 12x clips, 6x locating pins, 1x connector, Install the trim panel in the order shown in the picture, Check the trim panel clips before installation and replace any damaged clips.

Install liftgate upper trim.
Note15x clips, 2x locating pins, 2x tabs, Secure top portion first, then sides, Ensure tabs align with liftgate lower trim.

Close liftgate.
