Armrest - Door - Driver Seat (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Remove the LH front door trim. See Panel - Door Trim - Front - LH (Remove and Install).
  2. Remove the NVH pad from the door trim. See NVH Pad - Door - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  3. Place the LH front door trim on the workbench.
    Note
    If needed, place towels on the workbench to protect the door trim.
  4. Use a paint pen to mark the heat staked tabs (x17) on the LH front door armrest.
  5. Release the harness clips (x7) on the LH front door trim.
  6. Starting from the circle center, grind off the heat staked tabs for the LH front door trim armrest.
    Warning
    Wear appropriate PPE.
    CAUTION
    Be careful not to damage the door trim.
    Note
    For the protruding heat-staked tabs, recommend to use pliers. For the recessed heat-staked tabs, recommended to use a grinding device.
  7. Apply masking tape around the work area to protect the door trim.
  8. Pull the harness out from the door trim, and then remove the LH front door trim armrest.
  9. Remove the lower bolt cover from the armrest (7x clips).
  10. Remove the window switch assembly from the armrest (4x tabs, 1x clip).
    Note
    Pull up on the manual release handle for easy access to the special tool. Push up on the special tool to release the 4 tabs, and use your thumb to push down on the switch to release it from the door trim.

Install

  1. Clean the door trim thoroughly to prevent remaining residue that could cause unusual noises.
  2. Install the window switch assembly to the new door trim armrest (4x tabs, 1x clip).
  3. Install the lower bolt cover to the armrest (7x clips).
  4. Pass through the harness into the door trim, and then position the LH front door trim armrest for installation.
    Note
    Among the 17 round tabs, 2 are equipped with positioning datums to ensure proper installation in place.
  5. Remove the masking tape around the work area.
  6. With assistance, weld the heat staked tabs (x17) for the LH front door trim armrest.
    Warning
    Wear appropriate PPE.
    Note
    Press the LH front door trim and the door trim armrest with one hand to ensure that there is no large gap, especially around the switch area.
  7. Install the harness clips (x7) on the LH front door trim.
  8. Install the NVH pad to the door trim. See NVH Pad - Door - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Install the LH front door trim. See Panel - Door Trim - Front - LH (Remove and Install).
