Shield - Dust - Brake - Front - LH (Dual Motor) (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Remove the LH wheel center cap. See Cap - Wheel (Remove and Replace).
  3. Loosen the LH front drive unit halfshaft nut.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 32mm deep impact long socket
  4. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  5. Remove and discard the LH front halfshaft nut and washers.
  6. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH front rotor to the knuckle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx Plus T47 socket
    • 15mm combination wrench
  7. Position the hub puller onto the LH front hub assembly, and then secure the puller with the wheel lug nuts (x2) and hub puller washers (x2).
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 21 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 6 in extension
  8. Rotate the hub puller counterclockwise to free the LH front halfshaft from the LH front hub splines.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 17 mm deep socket
  9. Remove the hub puller tool from the LH front hub assembly.
  10. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose bracket to the LH front knuckle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  11. Remove and discard bolts that attach the LH front caliper to the LH front knuckle, remove the caliper from the knuckle, and allow the caliper to hang from an S-hook.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • E18 Torx socket
  12. Remove the bolt that attaches the brake rotor to the hub, and then remove the brake rotor from the hub.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
    • 2 in extension
  13. Remove the bolts that attach the LH front hub to the knuckle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm socket
    • 3 in extension
  14. Remove the bolts that attach the LH front brake dust shield to the knuckle, and then remove the dust shield from the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T30 socket
    • 4 in extension

Install

  1. Position the LH front brake dust shield onto the LH front knuckle, and then install the bolts that attach the shield to the knuckle.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T30 socket
    • 4 in extension
  2. Inspect the tone ring on the LH front hub prior to installation.

    CAUTION
    Replace the hub if tone ring shows signs damage.

  3. Apply approximately 1 gram of Molykote M-77 Lubricant Paste only to the hub mating face on the outboard side of the LH front drive unit halfshaft.

    CAUTION
    Do not apply any lubricant to the halfshaft splines. If lubricant is mistakenly applied, wipe the splines clean with a shop towel.

  4. Position the LH front hub on the knuckle, and then install the bolts that attach the hub to the knuckle.
    85 Nm (62.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm socket
    • 3 in extension
  5. Position the LH front brake rotor onto the LH front hub, and then install the bolt that attaches the rotor to the hub.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • 2 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  6. Loosely install a new nut and washer that attach the LH front halfshaft to the LH front hub assembly.

    Note
    Nut will be torqued at a later step.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 32 mm deep impact socket
    • 6 in extension
  7. Position the LH front caliper onto the LH front knuckle, and then install new bolts that attach the caliper to the knuckle. Mark the bolts with a paint pen after installation.
    94 Nm (69.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • External Torx E18
  8. Install the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose bracket to the LH front knuckle.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
  9. Install LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  10. Fully tighten the new LH front drive unit halfshaft nut and washers.
    300 Nm (221.2 lbs-ft)

  11. Install the wheel center cap. See Cap - Wheel (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
