Check Valve - Liquid Cooled Condenser (Remove and Replace)
Correction code 18401102 1.02 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so.NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. To provide feedback on FRT values, email LaborTimeFeedback@tesla.com. NOTE: See Personal Protection to make sure wearing proper PPE when performing the below procedure.
- 2024-06-19: Added step to make sure that the A/C system is depressurized before removing the cooled condenser check valve and added running ODIN routines through the touchscreen.
- 2023-04-04: Updated A/C oil type to be used with reference to Fluids and Capacities for A/C oil specifications.
- 2024-01-22: Removed the steps of removing and installing the A/C line assembly and added the steps about the front aero shield. And updated the way of performing the routines from using Toolbox to using the touchscreen.
Remove
- Prepare the vehicle for lifting. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Use the touchscreen to enter Service Mode. See Service Mode.
- Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the HEPA filter assembly. See Assembly - Filter - HEPA (Remove and Install).
- Remove the front aero shield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace).
- Lower the vehicle fully.
- Position a coolant drain container underneath the front of the vehicle.
- On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Run, and allow the routine to complete. . Authorize the routines by holding the right turn signal in the active position and pressing down the brake pedal for 8 seconds with the Drive Rail on, and then tap
- Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Begin A/C refrigerant recovery, and then return to this procedure. See GUID-C757523B-9718-45E7-BAF8-ABC5563F65AC.html#TASK_HWT_DLP_WNB.
- Remove the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the 12V battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the coolant bottle. See Coolant Bottle (Remove and Replace).
- When the A/C refrigerant recovery is complete, disconnect the A/C hoses from the vehicle.
-
Carefully depress the Schrader valves
(x2) to release the vacuum from the A/C lines.
WarningMake sure to depress both Schrader valves. Failure to do so may result in personal injury.
-
Remove the liquid cooled condenser
check valve snap ring from the supermanifold.
Tip: Use an inspection mirror as needed.
-
Remove the liquid cooled condenser
check valve from the supermanifold.
CAUTIONIf the check valve separates from the aluminum cap during removal, do not use metal tools. Metal tools may scrape the supermanifold housing causing internal damage. Use fingers or wrap electrical tape around a 90 degree pick.
Install
-
Lubricate O-rings on the liquid cooled
condenser check valve with the appropriate A/C oil. See Fluids and Capacities for A/C oil specifications. Then
install the check valve into the supermanifold.
Tip: Use an inspection mirror as needed.
-
Install a new liquid cooled condenser
check valve snap ring onto the supermanifold.
NoteMake sure the snap ring is fully seated inside the groove in the supermanifold.Tip: Use an inspection mirror as needed.
- Reconnect the A/C hoses to the vehicle.
- Begin the vacuum leak test and then return to this procedure. See Vacuum Leak Test and Oil Injection.
- Install the coolant bottle. See Coolant Bottle (Remove and Replace).
-
Install the 12V battery. See 12V/LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
NoteDo not connect 12V power at this time.
- When the vacuum leak test is complete, remove the low side A/C hose from supermanifold to HVAC A/C line assembly, and inject the appropriate amount of oil back into the A/C system. See Vacuum Leak Test and Oil Injection.
-
Install the low side A/C hose to
supermanifold to HVAC A/C line assembly, and recharge the A/C refrigerant. See GUID-C757523B-9718-45E7-BAF8-ABC5563F65AC.html#TASK_DTN_JLP_WNB.
CAUTIONRecharge the refrigerant exactly as instructed. Failure to adhere to the instructions can cause catastrophic damage to the cooling system.
- Remove the fluid catcher from underneath the vehicle.
-
Raise the vehicle to a comfortable
working height, and lower the lift onto locks.
CAUTION
Make sure there is an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise the vehicle may tilt to one side.
Make sure that the doors are clear of surrounding objects.
- Install the front aero shield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Non-Structural Pack) (Remove and Replace).
- Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
- On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap , and allow the routine to complete.
- Tap Run, and allow the routine to complete. , select
-
Tap Run, and allow the routine to
complete.
, select Note
- The routine will last for a while after the stop message displays. The coolant pumps are audible.
- The test lasts for approximately 10 minutes. Do not start another routine during this time.
- Make sure that the vehicle is not in Drive. Putting the vehicle into Drive will stop this routine.
- The speed in the test varies from 3500-6500 RPM (idle speed = ~1500 RPM) and the actuated valve varies between SERIES and PARALLEL.
- If the speed hovers at 7000 RPM, it indicates the pumps are air locked. Perform the vacuum fill again. Continue to add the coolant and purge until the coolant level reaches between the NOM and MAX Lines on the bottle.
- Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary, then install the coolant bottle cap.
- Tap Run, and allow the routine to complete. , select
- Tap Run, and allow the routine to complete. , select
- Disable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
- Install the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Fresh Intake (Remove and Replace).
- Install the HEPA filter assembly. See Assembly - Filter - HEPA (Remove and Install).
- Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
