Halfshaft - Front Drive Unit - LH (Remove and Replace)
Correction code 39302012 1.26 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Remove
- Move the vehicle to a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Remove the LH front wheel cap.
- Loosen the LH front axle nut.
- Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Remove the screw that attaches the LH front wheel speed sensor to the LH front knuckle, and then remove the sensor from the knuckle.
- Release the clips (x3) that attach LH front wheel speed sensor harness to the LH front knuckle, and then move the sensor aside.
- Remove the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose to the LH front knuckle.
- Remove the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose to the LH front active dampener.

Remove and discard the nut that
attaches the LH front stabilizer bar drop link to the front stabilizer bar, and then
remove the drop link from the stabilizer bar.
NoteTo prevent ball joint damage, use a T40 tool to prevent the LH drop link ball joint stud from turning while removing the nut.
- Remove and discard the nut that attaches the LH tie rod to the LH front knuckle, and then remove the tie rod from the knuckle.
- Remove the bolt and nut that attach the LH front active dampener to the LH front lower aft link.

If installed, remove and discard
the bolt that attaches the brake rotor to the hub.
NoteA new bolt will not be installed.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 13 mm socket

Remove the nut and discard the washer
that attach the LH front halfshaft to the LH front hub.
NoteIf washers are not present, procure a set so they can be installed later in this procedure.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 32 mm deep impact socket
- Install the hydraulic hub puller onto the LH front hub, and then install and hand-tighten the nuts (x5) and washers (x5) that attach the puller to the hub.
- Use the hydraulic hub puller to free the LH front halfshaft from the LH front hub splines.
- Remove the bolt, and discard the nut that attach the LH front upper control arm to the LH front knuckle, and then remove the control arm from the knuckle.
- Remove the LH front halfshaft from the LH front hub.
- Remove the nuts (x5) and washers (x5), and then remove the hydraulic hub puller from LH front hub.
- Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).

Install the axle removal tool around
the inner joint of the LH front halfshaft.
NoteMake sure that the cable loop is not wrapped around the inner boot.
- Use the slide hammer to release the LH front halfshaft from the front drive unit, and then remove the halfshaft from the drive unit.
Install

Install LH front halfshaft into the
front drive unit, and then firmly press the halfshaft into the drive unit so that the
halfshaft is fully seated.
NoteAn audible click is heard when the halfshaft is fully seated and the C-clip is fully engaged.
- Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).

Apply no more than 1 gram of Molykote
M-77 to the outboard face of the LH front halfshaft, as shown.
- Align the splines of the LH front halfshaft with those of the LH front hub, and then install the halfshaft into the hub.

Install only the axle nut
onto the halfshaft, and then use a ratchet and socket to manually tighten
the nut to pull the halfshaft into the hub until it seats.
NoteDo not use power tools to tighten the nut as it might strip the threads.

Remove the axle nut from the
halfshaft, install a new washer onto the halfshaft, and then reinstall the
axle nut hand tightened.
NoteThe axle nut is torqued in a later step.

Install the LH front upper control arm
into the LH front knuckle, and then install the bolt and a new nut to attach the control
arm to the knuckle.

Install the bolt and nut that attach
the LH front active dampener to the LH front lower aft link.

Install the LH tie rod into the LH
front knuckle, and then install a new nut to attach the tie rod to the knuckle.

Install the LH front stabilizer bar
drop link into the front stabilizer bar, and then install the nut that attaches the drop
link to the stabilizer bar.NoteTo prevent ball joint damage, use a T40 tool/5 mm Allen wrench to prevent the LH drop link ball joint stud from turning while installing the nut.

Install the bolt that attaches the LH
front brake hose to the LH front active dampener.

Remove the bolt that attaches the LH
front brake hose to the LH front knuckle.
- Fasten the clips (x3) that attach LH front wheel speed sensor harness to the LH front knuckle.

Install the LH front wheel speed
sensor into the LH front knuckle, and then install the screw that attaches the sensor to
the knuckle.
- Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).

Tighten the LH front axle
nut.
- Install the LH front wheel cap.
- Remove the vehicle from the 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.

Perform a test drive and make sure that the vehicle performs properly.
NoteAdd correction code 00040100 to account for the time of the test drive.
