Handle - Exterior Release - Door - Front - LH - Generation 3.0 (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Use the touchscreen to place the vehicle in neutral and activate parking brake.

    Hold the brake to activate. Drive rails will stay on.
  2. Latch the driver door to allow the window to raise fully.

    Do not close the door with window in this position as the upper bright trim will be damaged.
  3. Apply masking tape to the LH front door exterior release handle.

    Note
    This will prevents damage to the chrome surface.
  4. Remove the LH front door trim decor. See Decor - Trim - Front Door - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the LH front door trim panel. See Panel - Door Trim - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the LH front door outer belt seal . See Seal - Outer Belt - Front Door - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Disconnect the connectors (x2), and then release the clips (x2) that attach the LH front door harness to the closeout panel.
    Tip: Use a pocket screwdriver to release the door trim connector from the bracket mounted to closeout.
  8. Remove the bolts (x6) that attach the LH front door closeout panel to the door assembly.
    4.5 Nm (3.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket
    • 2 in extension
  9. Release the latch cable grommet from the closeout panel assembly, and then route the grommet and cable through the opening.
  10. Remove the LH front inner belt seal from the upper door assembly.

    Note
    Take care not to bend the inner belt seal during removal.
  11. Connect window master switch to the LH front door harness, and then raise the window fully.

    Connect door panel x927 if the switch kit is not available.
  12. Release the locking tab, disconnect the LH front door exterior release handle connector, and then release the clip that attaches the connector to the door assembly.
  13. Apply tape to the exterior of the LH front window.

    Align the tape with the door handle assembly.
  14. Remove the butyl patch and plug that cover the LH front door exterior release handle fastener access holes.
  15. Remove the nuts (x4) that attach the LH front door exterior release handle assembly to the door.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Use the window switch to lower the window to access the upper LH nut, and then use a combination wrench to remove the nut.

    CAUTION
    Avoid excessive contact with door and glass.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  16. Raise the LH front window fully.
  17. Remove the LH front door exterior release handle assembly through the access opening.
  18. Remove the screws (x5) that attach the hard cover to the LH front door exterior release handle assembly, and then remove the hard cover from the assembly.
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T25 socket
  19. Remove the screws that attach the painted door handle backplate to the LH front door exterior release handle assembly, and then remove the handle from the assembly.
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T20 socket

Install

  1. Install the door grip into the LH front door exterior release handle assembly.
  2. Position the painted door handle backplate to the LH front door exterior release handle assembly, and then install the screws that attach the backplate to the assembly.
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T20 socket
  3. Position the hard cover to the LH front door exterior release handle assembly, and then install the screws (x5) that attach the hard cover to the assembly.
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T25 socket
  4. Position the LH front door exterior release handle assembly into the door, apply Loctite 222 to the fasteners, and then loosely install the nuts (x4) that attach the assembly to the door.

    Note
    Use the window switch to lower the window to install upper LH nut onto door handle assembly.

    CAUTION
    Avoid excessive contact with door and glass.
  5. Align the door handle grip, and then tighten the nuts (x4) that attach the LH front door exterior release handle to the door assembly.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Hand tighten the upper LH nut to the door handle assembly, and then use a combination wrench to tighten it. Then tighten and torque the remaining nuts from the door plate opening.

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  6. Raise the LH front window fully and remove the tape.
  7. Use the adjustment screw to adjust the LH front door handle grip flushness to the door.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • T40 socket
  8. Connect the LH front door exterior release handle connector, engage the locking tab, and then secure the clip that attaches the connector to the door assembly.
  9. Install the LH front inner belt seal onto the upper door assembly.
  10. Cycle the LH front window and ensure the door handle harness and connectors are clear of the path of the regulator and moving glass.

    Listen and look for contact between regulator and wiring harness during operation
  11. Route the latch cable grommet through the opening in the LH front door closeout panel, and then install the grommet into the closeout panel assembly.
  12. Install the bolts (x6) that attach the LH front door closeout panel to the door assembly.
    4.5 Nm (3.3 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Make sure the inner door handle manual release cable is routed properly.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 8 mm socket
    • 2 in extension
  13. Install the butyl patch and plug that cover the LH front door exterior release handle fastener access holes.
  14. Secure the clips (x2) that attach the LH front door harness to closeout panel, and then connect the connectors (x2).
  15. Lower the LH front window.
  16. Disconnect the window master switch from the LH front door harness.

    Note
    Connect door panel x927 if the switch kit is not available.
  17. Install the LH front door trim panel. See Panel - Door Trim - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  18. Install the LH front door trim decor. See Decor - Trim - Front Door - LH (Remove and Replace).
  19. Install the LH front door outer belt seal. See Seal - Outer Belt - Front Door - LH (Remove and Replace).
  20. Release the LH front door latch.

    Note
    This will allow window to drop and not contact bright trim.
  21. Reinstall the software. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen.
  22. On the touchscreen, touch Service > Closures > Door Handles.
    Software version 2023.12 or later is required for the function to be available through the touchscreen.
  23. In the door handle calibration screen, touch Calibrate for the Front Left door handle.
  24. On the touchscreen, touch Service > Closures > Windows.
    Software version 2023.12 or later is required for the function to be available through the touchscreen.
  25. In the next screen, touch Calibrate Windows.
  26. Remove the masking tape from the LH front door exterior handle.
  27. Verify that the LH front door exterior handle functions properly.
