Cross Car Beam (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Open the LH and RH front doors and lower the LH and RH front windows.
  2. Open the hood.
  3. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the LH and RH wiper arms. See Wiper Arm - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the LH and RH shock tower covers. See Cover - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the LH shock tower V brace. See V Brace - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove the wiper module. See Wiper Module (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the upper steering column bracket IP carrier bolts at the bulkhead.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
  11. Remove the center console. See Center Console Assembly (Remove and Replace).
  12. Adjust the steering column fully rearward and fully down.
  13. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  14. Remove the IP sub-assembly. See Sub Assembly - Instrument Panel (Remove and Install).
  15. Remove the driver instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  16. Remove the driver airbag. See Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove the steering yoke/wheel. See Steering Yoke/Wheel (Remove and Replace).
  18. Remove the steering column upper shroud. See Shroud - Upper - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  19. Remove the steering column lower shroud. See Shroud - Lower - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  20. Remove the instrument panel harness. See Harness - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  21. Remove the nuts (x4) that attach the upper steering column to the steering column bracket, and then rotate the steering column and set it aside.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
  22. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the LH and RH cross car beam assembly to the body.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  23. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the cross car beam assembly to the toeboard bracket.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  24. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam assembly to the HVAC unit.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  25. Remove the cross car beam assembly from the body and the HVAC unit.

  26. With an assistant, remove the cross car beam assembly from the vehicle.

    Avoid contact with seats and inner door panel.
  27. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the center display brackets to the cross car beam assembly.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket

Install

  1. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the center display brackets to the cross car beam assembly.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  2. With an assistant, install the cross car beam assembly into the vehicle.

    CAUTION
    Avoid contact with seats and inner door panel.

    Note
    Align the datums (x4) before fully engaging the cross car beam assembly with the HVAC assembly.
  3. Engage the cross car beam assembly to the body and the HVAC unit.

  4. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the LH and RH cross car beam assembly to the body.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  5. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the cross car beam assembly to the toeboard bracket.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm socket
  6. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the cross car beam assembly to the HVAC unit.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  7. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the upper steering column bracket IP carrier bolts at the bulkhead.
    27 Nm (19.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
  8. Install the nuts (x4) that attach the upper steering column to the steering column bracket.
    15 Nm (11.1 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 13 mm deep socket
  9. Install the instrument panel harness. See Harness - Instrument Panel (Remove and Replace).
  10. Install the steering column lower shroud. See Shroud - Lower - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  11. Install the steering column upper shroud. See Shroud - Upper - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  12. Install the steering yoke/wheel. See Steering Yoke/Wheel (Remove and Replace).
  13. Install the driver airbag. See Airbag - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  14. Install the driver instrument panel duct. See Duct - Instrument Panel - Driver (Remove and Replace).
  15. Install the IP sub-assembly. See Sub Assembly - Instrument Panel (Remove and Install).
  16. Connect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  17. Install the wiper module. See Wiper Module (Remove and Replace).
  18. Install the LH shock tower V brace. See V Brace - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  19. Install the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  20. Install the LH and RH wiper arms. See Wiper Arm - LH (Remove and Replace).
  21. Install the LH and RH shock tower covers. See Cover - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Replace).
  22. Install the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
  23. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  24. Install the center console. See Center Console Assembly (Remove and Replace).
  25. Restore the steering column back to its original position.
  26. Raise the LH and RH windows and close the LH and RH doors.
