Module - Steering Column Control (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  2. Disconnect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  3. Remove the steering yoke/wheel. See Steering Yoke/Wheel (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the gap hider. See Gap Hider - Steering Column - Upper (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the steering column lower shroud. See Shroud - Lower - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  6. Disconnect the steering column control module electrical connector.

    Note
    The retaining clip on the connector will break away. Discard the broken retaining clip and replace it with a new one (1028053-00-A). The replacement retaining clip is orange.
  7. Remove the bolt that attaches the steering column control module to the steering column.

    CAUTION
    Carefully slide the steering column control module away from the steering column without rotating or damaging the components.

Install

  1. Install the bolt that attaches the steering column control module to the steering column.

    1x bolt, 5mm Allen, 9 Nm

    CAUTION
    Carefully slide the steering column control module on to the steering column without rotating or damaging the components.
  2. Connect the steering column control module electrical connector.

    Note
    Install a new orange retaining clip (1028053-00-A) to the electrical connector. Perform a push-pull-push test to make sure the connector is seated properly.
  3. Install the steering column lower shroud. See Shroud - Lower - Steering Column (Remove and Replace).
  4. Install the gap hider. See Gap Hider - Steering Column - Upper (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the red locking tab from the steering column control module.

    Lift the tab to break it off.
  6. Install the steering yoke/wheel. See Steering Yoke/Wheel (Remove and Replace).
  7. Connect LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
  8. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  9. Reinstall the vehicle software. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen.
